so long story short i pulled into a pretty busy intersection about 3 days ago and really had to get on it through first and second so i wouldn't cut anyone off. I had the clutch smell for a minute or two and thought everything was fine but since then every once in a while, especially when starting from a stop, i get the clutch smell again (it probably happened five times since the first time). car doesn't feel slower or pedal fell isn't any different at all just a smelly clutch on occasion. is this a sign that the clutch may be on its way out or did i just glaze the clutch and that is what i am smelling.

    thanks:)

You get the clutch smell when you let it slip too much during engagement. It doesn't necessairly mean your clutch is toast, it just means you took a little bit off of its life.

You have a problem when you are in gear, clutch pedal out and it starts to slip (engine revs, but car isn't moving). Happens typically under heavy accelleration or upper gears.

ya i let the clutch slip i too much the other day and expected the clutch smell i just didn't think it would keep coming back...the clutch doesn't slip or feel any different with the engagement so the more i think about it the more i think i am fine.

it just rolled over 60k i am pretty surprised it has lasted this long since i don't exactly baby the car at all (i tend to have a heavy foot). although it is pretty much stock so i think that has helped.. no real power mods on it any way.

terrance and brett both drive like my grandma.

But to answer your question I start saving for something as soon as I have exasperated the current pile of loot.

    :unamused:

just because my car has no power mods (for now:squint:) doesnt mean I drive like a grandma

my car does have quite a few suspension mods, and handles quite well

different car, but my last mustang had ~120k on the factory clutch...and I'm pretty sure I launched that thing more / harder than I ever have the STi.

    Donuts are fun :D
