Riddle me this....my car is freaking light.

So out of curiosity I went out to see what my car weighed with me in it and drag strip prepped. All I do is remove my rear seats and the speaker system and the spare tire.

With my 190 lb self the car weighs in at 3030 lbs. This is verified. I went to 3 DOT approved scales and also got on 4 grain bin scales and also 2 sets of scales like Topspeed has and all are within 5 lbs of each other.

How in the world is my car so freaking light with a 6 speed in it? It also has a sunroof? Most WRX's with 5 speeds are near 3400 lbs with driver.


I've removed everything under the carpets, all my airbags, both bumper beams are significantly lighter with aluminum beams, lighter rims, all the heat shields removed, all that useless tar crap under the car stripped off, some of the stuff behind the interior panels have been cut out since I could care less about noise at the time, waaaay lighter suspension, aluminum control arms vs the stamped steel ones, and I'm sure there's more.

However that should not = 400 - 500 lbs especially with a 6 speed. ????????

This explains how in the world the car is so fast but I'm dumbfounded. Do I have a factory freak?

 

Nice. Go carbon doors now. I removed 56lbs from my car going carbon.

 

Mmmmm carbon doors. Very pricey though isn't it?

 

My WRX with 5 speed weighed 3120 at the track with just the spare and jack removed and a 1/4 tank of gas. That was with me in it.


With the 6 speed it was just over 3200.

 

The 4eat is around around 3350 - 3400 i KNOW that the 5 speed is supposed to be lighter..

 

Well I guess with all the little 5-20 lbs here and there it is possible eh? Bryan removed a lot of crap when he was working with me on the car when I first went FMIC and 18g. I left the car at his shop so he did a lot that I'm not aware of. I called him and he told me that he actually removed more than I thought. I wasn't even aware it could be done....the ENTIRE interior was removed and reinstalled and I didn't even know that...lol Kinda ticked me off finding that out but then again I'm glad.

 

Wife' car (04 WRX) as it sits now, spare, jack, floor mats, coilovers, BBS's with RE070s, stock 5MT, big TMIC, etc etc...NOTHING light weight done with 1/2 tank gas and no driver IS............

2950 +/- 10 lbs on Long Acre scales. Confirmed on two different sets too.

Outback is same.

My 05 RS was 3000~3050.

 

Now I believe it.....3030 with me in the car is feasible.

 

Carbon doors is about $1400.00 for the fronts. maybe the same for the rear.

 

Okay if I ever get into a mild fender bender (or a door bender) I know who to call
