I hate to even ask this, but are there any available? I'm about to have to make a 600 mile business trip tomorrow and I'm worried I'll be out in the stix unable to find premium. I carry my AP w/ me in my car so I can flash at any point, so I need to know if anyone has any maps they can send me. If all else fails, I know the economy mode is based on a 91 oct platform...will this suffice? damn you, Ike...damn you...
If you were to flash the economy map, use 89 octane and absolutely positively stay out of boost, that might work. 87 is probably pushing it, though there are idiots that pump their wrxs full of 87 for years without blowing their motor up. EDIT: It should say in the manual that 87 octane can be used for short periods of time if 93 is not available. Or at least it does in mine.
I agree. Flash to the 91 economy map and stay out of boost (do you have a gauge?) and you should be OK. That is what I am doing now.
Carry 2 gallons of toluene in your car. You need 7 gals of 87 plus 2 gals of toluene to make 93. This is really the least desirable since you wont have a full tank and its the harshest concentration. You need 11 gals of 89 plus 2 gals of toluene to make 93 You need 11 gals of 91 plus 1 gal of toluene to make 93. Obviously this would be the best combo since you run the least concentrated mix. Toluene is expensive stuff but it'll get you to another gas station where you can top it off with 93. Here's an octane calculator if you want to figure out different combinations such as half a tank of 93 (~8gal) with a gallon of toluene topped off with 89 (~7 gal). . .
I've been by about 12 gas stations today and no one has premium, they are either completely out of gas or have regular only. This really sucks, I had a quarter tank of premium this morning then added 5 gallons of regular and flashed the economy map. I hope there is some premium soon, I don't like having to limp around on this crap.
I couldn't find 93 anywhere and completely ran out... So I had to fill up with 87 and flashed the economy map. Just gotta drive like an old lady for about 300 miles and hope I can find 93 then. Shouldn't be a problem short term.
