Okay heres the deal, i posted a thread on here about how to get my o2 code cleared and all the advice was good. i took it to all three, pepboys autozone and advanced and non of them would clear the code for me. Pepboys wanted 89 bucks for a scan a clear but i said f that. Does anyone have a scanner or know someone that does to help me clear this code, i really need to get my car inspected. Thanks in advance.
That's strange. I've had autozone and advanced check the code and then clear it for me multiple times.
I'm not sure clearing the code is illegal. I just have them scan it and tell me the code and ask if they could just go ahead and clear it for me. Or tell them you already replaced the part/sensor and to clear the code.
hah thats funny you say that because after advanced told me they cant do it i went to autozone and told them i just replaced the o2 sensor and i need to see if the code was still throwing. they scanned it and said it was and i asked if they could clear it since i replaced it and they said they couldnt, even tho i ould see the big ERASE button on the scanner. maybe ill just buy one.
Maybe y'all know something I don't, but last I checked simply disconnecting your battery for a few minutes would clear all codes. You do have to drive the car for a few hundred miles afterwards so the car can 'relearn' everything again, but it's a helluva lot cheaper than buying a code reader. Of course, if you haven't fixed the problem, it will come right back again. I point this out because OBD2 continually checks itself. If you have fixed the problem, simply driving it around is supposed to clear the code as well. -Chris!
If you flat out ask them to clear the code they don't....anymore. EPA can fine them...so they say. I took my car to autozone once and had them read the code then I pressed the erase button. I now have my own scanner so I can do it myself. If you are in suwanee on the weekend, I can help you out.
Did you replace the sensor yet? Truth. Dealerships and independent shops have been receiving fines from undercover DOT/EPA all the time. Basically the same thing as the local DOT branch taking a known failing vehicle to an inspection station, they pass it...BOOM! large fines and they are shut down. I've seen it happen more than once. Did you replace the sensor yet?
No i havent yet replaced the senor, my grandpa accually just bought a pocket scanner, so i erased the codes, there not gone yet but i gotta long some miles, does anyone know how many miles i have to log before they will clear
Dude they will not clear until you fix the darn thing. Stop trying unless you want to simply tear the car up more.
It's throwing a code and he keeps trying to delete it when his car is telling him something isn't right.
I was wondering what the underlying cause was. Is there a bad sensor or is he running stage two without EM. If the car is running fine there are ways around failing emissions because of a O2 code.
his other thread, he states its a slow response code. Thats a REAL problem and not a P0420 due to no cats.
My scanner says zero codes but there are some that arent giving me the ready. i dont know the code # but its the 02 sensor heater and o2 sensor. i guess i need the spacific code to tell which one huh.
if it was a heater code its a realproblem as well. When the system gets done testing the heater system it will go toFAIL instead of READY/PASS and you'll have acel for one O2 heater. AGAIN.
if you clear the code and it comes back on before all the readiness motitors are set then you wont get it to pass... as soon as it test the o2 and the heater and sees a problem its gonna through the code.. no matter how much you clear the code it wont happen... if your worried about the tag pay the advalorum or w/e it is and you ont be penalized... another trick depending on the county is get tested with the readiness monitors not all set and they will give you a emissions sheet that says you need to drive the car for 100 to 200 miles and you can take that to the tag office and get a temporary tag good for like two weeks... i did that!
It seems you are going to more trouble trying to beat the system then it would be just to replace the sensor. Maybe you could find a working take off from someone that deleted one of the O2 sensors if money is the issue.
yeah Doe is def. the issue, what are those o2 blocker things called i need to try and buy some of those.
hey thanks for the offer, i got my hand on a scanner so im not throwing any codes anymore. but i do have my o2 senor as incomplete. so i need to log some miles first. unless you scanner will erase them on the spot. that would be great.
Go back to AutoZone/Pep Boys/whatever. Tell them you have a check engine light and need to know what it means. Ask them to PULL the code. Do not mention anything about clearing it. After they pull the code and are still plugged into your car, ask them to clear the code. Tell them you want to see if it comes back, so you know whether you need to take the car in for service. They should not charge you. The other thing you can try is to go to X and ask them if you can borrow their scanner to pull the code. They always ask me if I know how to use it, and if I say yes, they just hand you the scanner and you do everything yourself.
okay the code is back, yes im an idiot, a broke idiot so i guess i gotta fork th funds over for a new o2 sensor. the code p0139. is that the rear o2? Im running a utec and catless. isnt the code just going to come back with a new sensor since im running rich with no cats?
Slow response. are you using any antifoulers or any kind of bullshit that puts the O2 sensor out of the direct exhaust stream? Even if its built into the downpipe. I need to know. I've seen several cars have issues when others didnt with use of: A: Anti foulers B: downpipes with manufactured 'anti P0420' devices C: Electronic inline hard wired devices Each of those interferes with how the ECU and rear O2 sensor determine if: A: The cats are working. B: The long term fuel trim is matching what the A/F sensor and MAF are telling the ECU. If the rear O2 sensor is responding to AFR changes that are outside of the parameters that the ECU is expecting to see the change at the rear O2 sensor it will throw that code. OR you have the other option that its just plain bad. But modifications are always to be looked at first.
