My buddy is looking at getting some since he can get them super cheap. They have 5000 miles on them.

So tell me are they decent for $500?

Why are they being sold so quickly? That would make me nervous that the original owner is willing to take a $400 hit just to be rid of them. I hate the you get what you pay for argument because it does not give any real information. So from what I have been able to find they are not as good as most other "cheap" coilovers. They probably will not be rebuildable, the height adjustment may seize, the adjustable strut does not really adjust dampening and the dampening will not be the same strut to strut.
That being said I have not personally owned them so.....

Save your money. Probably some real Taiwan crap. I made my mistake buying used coilovers in the past. Looked great. Drove well for about 100 miles then had to get the fronts rebuilt.

greg has them in his sti but one orteo of them are blown. He has well over 10,000 miles on them tho. So that's to be expected with any coilover that age. The are pretty decent as far as handling quality. For 500 bucks they may be an ok deal. But I would personally spend more money on new megans or teins before buying used coilovers.

To quote WJM when I was looking at coilovers:

"Don't buy those pieces of ****, or any other midrange/cheap POS's. Get the Megans.

So, I went out and got the BC's. I like them.

    End of story.

And is that the typical life of a set of coilovers? 10,000 miles?!

Nope. My Tein Flexes have 100,000 miles on them and they are just now getting spongy and needing a revalving.

Well I have the Megans on my car and think they are complete crap compared to the JIC and APEXi coilovers I have used in the past. So opinions are like assholes, everyone has one:)

It totally depends on how you are driving your car. The STi I co-drive last year at nationals had teins... about five months ago they developed a nasty crack. I sold him my KW which I took off my car (before they were on "lucy"). When we took them off my car we discovered one had to be rebuilt. The KWs most likely had under 5000 miles on them; I'd imagine my friend's Tein's had 10,000 or less. If you are driving your hard at competition events your shocks will take way more of a beating and see alot more stress.

My buddy asked TiC (Turn in Concepts) their opinion and here is what they said.....

We have some experience with those due to some local customers buying them on a whim because they are so cheap. I can tell you, without any reservations, that getting them would be a mistake. A HUGE mistake.

Listen, I'm not just saying that to make a sale. Hell, Gary at Mann Engineering sells the springs, and any number of places sell the Konis so if you don't believe me go through them, and not through us, but for the love of your car do not get those coilovers.

Will I think BigDRex wanted you to state 'why' you don't like the DNA's......not just don't get them and that they are crap.

So can you go in more depth please?

    GAAAHHH!!! FINE!!!!

Basically, I group these coilovers as the following:

    Group BullShit:
    Helix
    Cusco
    JIC
    BC
Early Apexi for WRX and GC/GM/GF
    Some others
KW/RCE Tarmac/Variant (sure flame away. But I hate these)

    Group MEH:
    Megan Racing TRACK
Megan Racing STREET for 05+ STi
    Ksport
    D2

    Group Good:
    Tein Flex
    Tein SS
Megan Racing STREET for 04 STi, 02~07 WRX
Megan Racing STREET for 92~01 Impreza

    Group AWESOME:
    Zzyzx

    Group WAY TO FUCKING EXPENSIVE:
    Ohlins
    Penske
    Moton

The Group BS coilovers are BOUNCY as shit and there's really no way to tune that out. They usually fall apart fast and shit goes wrong. I've noticed alot of KW/RCE shocks wearing out quite fast.

Special note about the KW/RCE...for some reason people like these. i dont understand why. I've never driven a car that these felt good on. No matter the setup. Also, the front camber adjustment SUCKS as the holes are machined WRONG and on one of the front coilovers its BACKWARDS. The rear has GINORMOUS slotted bolt holes that allows you to go from -5 camber to +3 camber. That and you've got to TQ it down to like 200ftlbs to keep it from slipping.

They also dont come with tophats.

AND they have ZERO ride height adjustment. Any adjustment made in an attempt to adjust ride height messes with the corner weights. DIRECTLY. Plus they are NOT easy to corner balance. They also feature some plastic bull shit collars that strip out and break easily.

The ONLY plus to the KW's are their droop travel.

The KWs and RCE are much better than the Teins, the Slot problem has been fixed and the RCE version comes with Tophats.

I love the RCEs on my car the only ones I would even consider are the High Dollar Penske Moton Koni Setups
