It may cut into mustang sales but it would also cut into subaru, mitsu and a lot of other companies sales.

Having owned a few SN95 Stangs I could see that LOL, although it is certainly a differen't market in some respects! At this point they have nothing to loose!

I wasn't saying that I thought it would cut into mustang sales, I believe the opposite, but Ford has consistently stated that they don't want other "sports" models in their lineup for this reason. They actually, like most of the U.S. makers, have some decent products in other markets, but don't bring them here. I have never been able to imagine someone going into the showroom and buying a Focus instead of a mustang (or vice versa for that matter). And I fail to see how this is a problem for Ford, after all, aren't they still moving product that way?!?!

see SVT Contour/SVT Focus....Here most people would only 'see' a Focus that costs twice as much as a regular one.
In the past American manufacturers have tricked people into buying what amounts to little more than cosmetics with little or no performance upgrades.
In the U.K. the Focus ST starts at around 30,500$.and its almost like comparing an Impreza to an STI.I would guess that would put it (RS) at well over 40K$ maybe even in the mid 40's.Not too many people will shell out that kind of dough for what is basically the Escorts replacement.Still i would love to see them here.
There are some cool cars that they make in Australia too.
