What would WRXAtlanta do?

Well I'm keeping the car if WJM gets it fixed so I want to mix it up a little.

I want to get rid of my CF hood. Why? The vents are dumping water on the air filter and some other components under the hood which isn't a good thing. I've already sold the hood so keeping it is out of the question....I'm just waiting on the money for it.

So what would WRXAtlanta do?

1) Rock the RS hood I already have? Only con is that hood is HEAVY! I don't like how heavy it is.

2) Get the stock hood and the KSTech scoop delete



3) Get a CF RS hood. Use your imagination from picture #1 only CF and of course black. For a reference here's the black and white look.

 

Why not get the RS hood and lighten it up?

Otherwise, I vote for a regular hood with the KSTech delete on it
(though doesn't this do almost the same thing as your carbon hood - letting water in from the top?)

 

The water from the scoop isn't hurting anything. It's the side vents that is dumping water in unwanted places. What you mean by get the RS hood 'AND' lighten it up? I have a RS hood now but it's Steel and not Aluminum.

 

You can cut out all the cross bracing in it to lighten it up but then it becomes very flimsy. I did this on my Hondas that I use to race.

 

You can cut out the under supports. Sport compact car did it on a nissan se-r and took about half the hood weight out. The problem they had was at high speeds the hood bowed enough to contact the engine and to create an "air brake." I like the stock hood with the scoop delete personally.

 

By lightening it, I mean drilling/cutting holes in the support pieces that support the skin of the hood.

I wouldn't cut enough out to make what you two ^^ are talking about though.

 

Cut up hoods = NEGATIVE.

I'd do the scoop delete. The CF RS style hood would look good too. I just honestly wouldn't keep with the first option.

 

I would say get a STi or WRX hood and get the solid KStech blocking plate, not the mesh one you posted up.

 

I say take it to stock, get a Forester, and put all the parts into the Forester.

 

I'd say RS hood.

Or if you are that worried about weight, WRX/STi hood and do the scoop delete with a solid piece instead of the vented mesh grille thing.

 

LOL I know WJM will fix the car. Well maybe.....I KNOW he will locate the problem though. Fixing depends on what it is and if parts are readily available

But I can fix anything on the car if I freaking know what is wrong....lol

 

isn't the 07 rs hood aluminum? so just get that hood instead.

oops, my bad, I just saw the 2007 STI part in your sig and I just assumed you had a 07. I would vote for the sti hood with scoop delete too then.

If your going for a clean look go with the RS hood, if your going for the agressive look go with the delete. Either in my oppion look good, just depends an what your ultimate look your going for.

 

I would vote the delete...but then again, I got the limited because I don't like the boy racer look. Eventually I'll go front mount, scoop delete --> total sleeper.

Best bet imo. That's what I'm doing now. Only other consideration would have been the solid delete plate, but I'd leave it as it is for now.

RS hood is going on the car in about 2 hrs. Why buy something when I already have a solution? If I'm worried about that little weight.....then there would not be a lot of things in the car to start with...heh

Yeah, the RS hood, to me, looks super clean. Also, your car is retardedly fast based on your power graphs and what I've heard, so the more sleeperish it is the better I think. If the weight becomes an issue I'm sure you could lighten the hood. Drilling the supports or even sanding the metal and repainting could do it? Normally I would be like "is weight really that much of an issue?" but if I'm right I'm pretty sure you run your car at the strip, right?

 

As mentioned before, drilling/cutting supports on the hood makes it super flimsy. I've done such mods before and I DO NOT recommend it.

unfortunatly there are no *REAL* CF hoods unless you pay exorbent amounts of monies to get a real really real one. Those are flimsy too.

 

Will I think you are talking about a dry CF hood....those are stupid expensive.

The RS hood is on the car. And to answer dontcallitarex.....I don't go to the strip like I used to. The only times I go now is after I install something and get it tuned to see if there truely is a difference worth noting.

They almost always end up seperating between the fg and the cf eventually.

Yep. The CF one I had weighed 1 lb more and it fit okay. It just got very close to the left fender where there was plenty of space on the right side.

Saves weight...? And could cool the engine better? CAI somewhat? There is no downside to having no hood!!

 

Wrong. It would affect underhood pressure and real world performance aspects. Airflow would not be ideal as it would in the real world/what you are tuned for.
