I was going to order the APS inlet but I noticed they do not make it for the 02 ej205 does anybody know if the 04/05 fits or am I stuck with the silicone. Thanks
AFAIK all turbo inlets are the exact same from 02-07. but the are the biggest PITA to install. you have to remove the intake manifold to do it correctly
I think the gimmick motorsports one doesn't require the intake manifold to be removed for the install.
A word to the wise for amateurs like me. My stock turbo inlet is developing a tear. I am taking off the Upper Intake to fix a fuel leak. I figured I would swap the turbo inlet. Everyone told me the Perrin silicon inlet sucks, get the APS it's the best. One thing nobody mentioned to me prior to purchasing the APS was, if you do the APS you also have to delete the TGV's which is an additional $500 above and beyond the inlet and then a retune. This turns into a $1000+ turbo inlet fix after everything is said and done. Unless you are ready to sink over 1k into a turbo inlet. Luckily I did my research prior to the install, unfortunately the parts in the mail. Now I have to scrambel to get a Perrin and return the fucking APS. Another foot note, nowhere on the intructions does APS mention deleting your TGV's. You do romove them temporarily with the UI ofcourse but no mention of a delete Everyone may tell you the Perrin silicone sucks but in hind site it does not suck money like the APS and unless you're running a big turbo set up is just friggin' fine and better than stock. Sorry about the long write up. This helps me vent so I don't go out there and rip someones heart out with an olive fork! I am just that pissed right now!
I have never heard that you had to have deletes in order to use the APS inlet? Where did you get this info from?
What the fuck are you talking about? Why in the he'll would you have to delete tgvs to install a turbo inlet???!?!!?!!
Scott Siegel , WJM and Matt I believe but i could be wrong that it has to do with clearance although no one has clarified this????? The Truth is out there...........but no one has come forth yet??????
the only reason you delete tgvs is to create more flow and prevent future problems with them locking up. Now granted, if I were I'm your situation having to take the manifold off anyways, I would go ahead and do it because I have done it before. But they are internal and in no way should affect something on the exterior of the motor. Unless there is an issue with the new inlet hitting a motor or sensor of the tgvs but that wouldn't make sense on aps's part to make something like that. Now I could see all 3 if the aforementioned gentlemen suggesting you do the tgvs while everything is apart, but saying they have to be done? I doubt that. Unless there is something I'm missing guys?!?!?!?

I have an urgent e-mail to APS and actually will call them long distance over the next few hours them being in Ausyland to get to the bottom of this. There is no way they can show re-installation of the stock TGV and they do show them in the manual, without mentioning a delete if this is the case? Just called them and spoke to them and they will be shooting me an e-mail ASAP, I will post it.
Unless for some strange reason the TGV motors get in the way of the intake but that still would make no sense to me.
Apparently the turbo side TGV sensor has a greased taint hair of clearance if that and you are done if you have a 20g or bigger. I have a 16g so there is a slight greased taint hair of a possibility it will fit. If it does not I will replace the inlet with a stocker and save up for the TGV's and probably a ported UI. Update: Just got off the phone with Grimmspeed and there is a poor mans TGV delete if necessary. Romove motor and sensor, place TGV on drill press. Use a 7/64 drill bit press on the Phillips head side of the valve guide and drill it out untill you hear two popping sounds allowing you to remove the valve flaps. Mod time about 30 seconds. Reinstall motor without sensor. You will need to get CEL's fixed same as the delete.
You DO NOT have to delete TGV's unless you are going to use a 3" inlet turbo. You DO NOT have to remove the manifold to install the APS inlet. I have two friends that tried to install them and couldn't. One is a 2002 and the other is a 2004. Both were about to yank the manifold until they called me and I told them to hold on and let me get there. Both instances I got there and 5 minutes later the inlet was slid into it's spot and ready to be clamped down on the turbo and such. People make them out to be a total pain when in reality it's nothing that a little twisting and patience won't get you.
Ok let me just verify that you are referring to the inlet on the actual Turbo, because the APS is a 3" pipe and comes with a few adapters, but my turbo inlet is smaller than 3". Is that right?
Yes, the stock size turbo inlet is 2.4". I have honestly never heard of anyone having to do TGV Deletes to get an APS inlet on.
The TGV's hit the turbo when you need to delete them. The inlet is close and may lean against the TGC but the real issue for those large 3" inlet turbos is the compressor of the turbo itself hitting the TGV motors.
Good that makes me quite happy and verifies my research as well. That is pretty much what APS said in their e-mail.
In hind site I guess I can say the same. I'm pretty sure the 16g is not a 3". Maybe the folks I spoke to thought I had a bigger turbo. I had never heard that either.
No problem man, seems to have been some confusion referring to the 3" turbo inlet on the turbo vs the 3" turbo inlet hose. I am an amateur so learning as I go, glad to be able to install it! Atleast I now know what the "F" a TGV is and how to delete it LOL!
You will need to unbolt the power steering bolt and if you are patient and creative the inlet will install. However I see you got phenolic spacers so I'm assuming you are yanking the manifold which is the best way to do it and at the same time you can fix that fuel leak. Woot!
Yup upper intake is coming off. Fuel assembly get's the Subaru OEM fix. Got the spacers and the APS. Should be decent flow after that. Also putting back STi TMIC. Then another visit to The Siegel. Long term I will probably do the TGV and ported UI. ACT organic clutch will go in over the next couple of weeks as well.
