So Saturday I was driving to Marietta and I was in 3rd gear cruising when the car just turned off, out of no where. All the sensor lights went on at once, I checked my gauges immediately.. no sign of anything. I just had a new water pump put in after one less than a year old starting leaking last week. Then Sunday morning when I started up my car before It turned over it made a screeching sound, and then once it turned over it sputtered... anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? its a 2001 jetta.
maybe, but the car was idling low a year or so ago and I believe the IVAC was actually cleaned already... =[
I have no clue on the shutting off, the screeching could just be a belt. It could be telling you to go get a subaru.
Clean your injectors if you know how to. That was what was wrong with a friends car so I cleaned them and it stopped the low idle and sputter.
Uhm just every single light lit up on the dash when the car turned off. They all went away when I was able to turn the car back on.
wow thanks for your handy advice, but not all of us have the time and money to retry and replace at every problem that should arise.
Could be the engine speed sensor. This sounds like a prevelant problem on many VDubs. If the sender doesn’t send out a signal, the ECU will cut the fuel pump relay command feed, it is a safety function. These might be the codes: 16706 (P0322) Engine speed sender -G28 no signal 17806 (P1398) Engine speed signal, TD short to earth Good Luck
but he does have a point... my wife has a vdub 1.8T new beetle (2001) every goddamned time i turn around there is SOME kind of electrical shit-taking going on... and working on them is a kick in the balls. i'm done with vdubs, although i will say this, i love their gearboxes.
Oh i'm well aware of the many on going electrical issues.. it fucking sucks. Its ALWAYS something.. my fucking windows dont even operate normal. when I push down they just keep going up.. damn gremlins.
Agreed on all counts. A friend of mine had a 2001 GTI and that thing was an absolute pain in the ass to work on. Hell even changing a tire for a friends Jetta this past weekend was a pain in the ass because she didn't know where the wheel lock key was:unamused:
ok thats just kinda funny though:rofl: I'd say try cleaning the MAF or if you know someone else with a 2.0 VW swapping MAF's and seeing if that fixes the issue. That is gonna be a cheap/easy thing to check
yeah get this... i blew a tire on the 285 to 75 bypass going 95mph and couldnt put the spare on because the fucking person who put my tires on STRIPPED the fucking wheel lock.
Make sure to see if you threw any codes before you start working on stuff. "damn gremlins" I think you meant "damn Germans"
It's a VW, that's what's wrong with it! Check your coil packs, there was a recall on them because they randomly fail.
