May download the PC demo this week.
I should be picking it up for Xbox 360 tomorrow. I actually just heard about it a few days ago. I'm stoked
yea i saw the preview for this game at work....bad ass looking..need for speed and what is it, midnight club las vegas or something like that???? look pretty cool too....i was bored at work and kept glaring at the TV..lol. post up your reviews when/if anyone has it....oh and dont forget..DC Comics vs Mortal Kombat!! I feel like a kid again!
Yea it's pretty fun, I've played the demo for PS3 like 10 times lol. It's only supposed to be like 5 hours long so definitely a rental for me.
Me and your brahphastapholes geeked out and watched a bunch of gameplay vids and interviews about it the other night. Lemme know if you pick it up, I want to check it out, preferably on an HDTV since my 15yr old 50" wont do it justice.
Gotta love the holiday season with all the new games coming out at once I still got my eyes on GOW2...just too broke to purchase. Trying to save for a bigger turbo
yeah...gonna rent this one on Friday. The demo was great...I really hope they let you configure the controller how you want to; seems to be set up for a left-handed person.
She's like a secret agent/real life version of mario! If you liked Resident Evil 4, pick up Dead Space, it has so many awesome mechanics stuffed into the game. Notable are zero gravity scenes on the outside of the ship all your HUD and inventory seamlessly integrated. It will truly leave you terrified for your life.
Real lame. I had pre-ordered this from Gamestop. I went to pick it up just now and they still haven't gotten it. False release dates FTL.
got so so reviews. its only like 6 hours and I hear the loading times suck. and it's all white and red laff not worth buying IMO
The associated press seemed to like it (just the first review I found) http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/11/11/entertainment/e110106S40.DTL It does suck that I hear it's a pretty short game, but I'm hoping it's a case of quality over quantity. All of the clips look great and I absolutely love the fact that it's first-person. Also just reading reviews previously of people that played the demo, it seems to be fun enough to have replay value (people were talking about the fact that they played the demo 8 times through, like Jay).
I just took a break from playing a couple of hours, the game is fun as hell. I'm still getting used to the controls (I suck at combat), but just the grace that you navigate through the game is outstanding. I am definitely seeing some of the flaws that the reviewer nicad mention was pointing out. But overall the positives are raping the negatives. I'll give it a more thorough review after I beat it, which shouldn't be too terribly long. Although, unless the levels start getting drastically shorter, there's no way I'm beating it in 6 hours.
Alright, well I just finished the story mode, so I feel qualified to give my full opinion on the game now. The gameplay was fantastic. And since it is the whole appeal of this game (or at least it's why I bought it), it definitely hit the nail on the head. I just find the fluency that you can navigate through some of the environments exhilarating. The controls take a little bit of time to get down, but once you do, you move like a pro. It also does a very good job with making you feel like you're moving fast, and in certain cases, the tension of the impending doom on your tail. I think it was around 7-8 hours of gameplay in story mode for me (on normal). I thought the story was interesting enough, and the levels were diverse enough that they kept me wanting to play. Of course someone can boil the game down to "all you do is run from people the whole time" but you can basically do that with any any first person game, just replace "run" with "shoot people." The levels were also a good balance of quick sections (where you are just trying to get from point A to point B without being killed) and "jump puzzles" (you have as much time as you'd like, but you have to do all sorts of crazy acrobatics to get from point a to point b). Also, I must add, thank god for checkpoints. They seemed to come pretty frequently; not once did I plummet to my death and then get pissed because of how far back I had to start. And trust me, you will plummet to your death. Despite the only 7-8 hours of story, I have played a lot more than that and still definitely have more to do. I really enjoy the time trial modes. Basically it just takes sections of the levels, lays out checkpoints, and you try to navigate through them as fast as possible. It's a good balance of problem solving (figuring out the fastest routes) and coordination. Also, upon beating the game, you unlock the speed run feature. It's basically the same idea as the time trials but in this one it's just a level of the game that you're trying to complete as quickly as possible (so you're still forced to deal with enemies and such). I can see these two play modes leading to a lot of ridiculous records on XBOX live, and a lot of youtube videos. Now to address some of the negatives that I've heard and experienced with the game. The use of elevators does seem kind of cheap (as mentioned in the review Nicad posted). Granted, the action is often taking place in skyscrapers, but it just disrupts the pace of the game and all together seems unrealistic in the context of a free runner. At the same time though, running up 40 flights of stairs would be rather boring (not to mention tiring). There are extremely short load times occasionally in the levels. Luckily these always occurred in non action areas (liking running down a hallway), so it never really killed the gameplay too much. They were also pretty few and far between, but it seems like the developers should have been able to iron that out. The colors. I brought the game over to a friend's house with a nice flat panel so I could jump across rooftops in HD. He commented many times on how the coloring of the game was "tripping" him out. The coloring is extremely sterile. Everything seems either white or a primary color (with the occasional green or purple thrown in the mix). I personally loved it. I thought it added to the whole feel of the futuristic city, but I could see some people maybe getting annoyed by the lack of variety. Verdict: If you saw the trailor, and thought holy shit that looks incredible (like I did), I'd say it would be a safe buy. You more than likely are going to love the gameplay, because the preview definitely does do it justice. If you saw the trailer and thought, "hmm that looks kind of neat," rent it. Overall I thought it was a practice of quality over quantity. Sure there were improvements that could have been made here and there, but overall the game was just very well thought out and put together. I also thought it was so refreshing to have a new game that wasn't draped in post-apocolyptic, horror, dreary, zombie death (Dead Space, GoW2, Endwar, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead).
+1 This game is only a rental for me...goes back in a couple of days. I really wish the story was longer. And the elevators did get on my nerves a bit.
