Second gear on the main shaft is missing a tooth. I can't find the tooth but everything else looks fine.

Now the question is do I replace the main shaft for 1200 or get straight cut 1st and 2nd for 1800? Right now 1st and 2nd are helical but that didn't work out so well.

Thanks for the offer. My car is up and running so I'm good for now but I am running out of 5mts. Only one spare left.

I know its more expensive but going straight cut sounds like a better plan. It just sounds like it'll be less expensive in the long run.

whats amazing is that the stock 5mt is holding up, seeing those gears side by side you would think the ppg's could not be broken.

Um, I'd say go with the stock 5MT and not use the PPG. ROFL

The helicals are supposed to be just as strong as the straights according to AndrewTech. I don't think it's an issue with the gear....I bet it's purely an install problem. Subaru trannies have to be perfect when assembled and also I know AndrewTech does some special extras when they install the gears too.

Its funny when they first came out and I got mine...Andrew Tech didn't put a horsepower limit on them. They said they had never been broken and not to worry, they also said the straight cuts are stronger than the helicals. Its funny how the story changes.

    Good Luck

good eye...look down the shaft, too, i'm not sure if that's third gear or not (not familiar w/ tranny innards), but there are nicks and notches there, too (supposed to be like that?)

thats reverse and the notches on the right are by design. the small impressions on the left were not there when they were installed so maybe they happened when the tooth broke.

I don't think this was assembly as much as it was the gears being compromised. if it was assembley and some how 3rd hit second and broke it there would be signs of impact on 3rd.

first and second gear were a used set that were in a tranny that lost 3rd gear. they may have suffered more damage than was visible.

Yep, thats the EXACT same break pattern on all the missing tooth gears I've seen.

    Sorry, no warranty!

But seriously, that is from 'excessive shock loading.' You're lucky it didnt strip the gears.

Did you find the missing tooth?

This seriously blows. That is why I bought myself a brand new 6MT....that way I know how hard it's been driven.
