So, I was driving home tonight and I went to pass someone on a 2 lane road. We were going about 45. I downshifted to 4th to get ready and then down to 3rd to pass. I was about 3/4s the way through the pass at full boost when I hear what sounds like a BOV venting to atmosphere...but I don't have a BOV. It also distinctly felt like something let go, like something under pressure found an escape hatch...After I make the pass I continue to drive on and notice that now the very loud hiss is present anytime I start to build boost, the acceleration also feels slightly rough under boost. I figured I just blew I hose off. I get home and do a quick look see, but I really can't find anything out of place...the BPV hoses look okay, the wastegate and BCS hoses look okay, as well as the throttle body and Intercooler pipes. Admittedly this was just a quick look with a shop light in the dark and freezing car port. I'll be able to get a better look tomorrow. The car is still building decent boost pressure, although I may not be hitting target boost.
Look under the top mount? There are 2 hoses under there as well as the one connected to the turbo on the y pipe. Feel free to swing by and I can have a look...I remember you not being terribly far from me.
I am running an STI TMIC...are you talking about that junction in the y-pipe, or the pipes that run from the intake to the BPV...or yes to both? From what I can see, it looks like the pipe coming out of the turbo to the intercooler looks secure...I'll get a better look tomorrow. and I apprieciate the offer, I'll keep it in mind. ...and I decided to keep my car.
Something similar happened to me twice in my 02 wrx. Both times it was a loose clamp on the turbo connecting to the Y pipe.
This is what I am thinking...like crash sugested as welll...something connected to the intercooler. It is definately post turbo, and not part of the boost control system.
It was the turbo outlet pipe...going into the intercooler. The clamp was tight, but the hose had walked off of the turbo on one side. problem solved.
