Me and Matt (Slowwrx) just went to Flip right off of Howell Mill. Man was it good. We ordered some very gluttonous things. I started off with a Krispy Kreme donut milkshake. Matt decided on the Nutella and burnt marshmellow shake. Mine was absolutely delicious and brought on a guilty conscience just sipping it. Matt's was awesome, soft nuttiness and chocolate that was balanced by the bitterness of the burnt marshmellows. The main courses were just as good. I ordered the pate burger melt, which was a pork and veal pate patty dressed with some cornichons (baby pickles) and a lingonberry sauce. Burger was very flavorful and had the cornichons and lingonberries to provide just enough acid to cut through the juicy burger. The buns that it came on was just so soft and chewy and crispy on the inside where they had toasted it. The other burger I had was the "Corned beef" burger. Upon first bite it was very german in flavor. Dressed with a buttered saurkraut and beer mustard and topped with a sunny side up quail egg. So good. The flavors were well done and the beer mustard was not overly pungeant as some mustards can be. Sides we ordered the french fries, tempura rutabaga, and roasted mushrooms. The fries were very crispy and home made. They were a bit oily though. They were served with your usual ketchup (catsup) and a smoked aioli. They cold smoked the olive oil and made a garlic mayonaisse out of it. That really made the fries. The rutabagas were probably the best side that we had. There was a very characteristic crunch to them that went perfect with the sweet and spicy berry sauce that came with it. The roasted mushrooms were fit for any prime steak that you could get at Bone's or Chop's. Just delicious. All and all I think that was one of the best meals I've had at that price. Usually I've spent a lot more and have been less satisfied. Amazing food. I definitely recommend you guys try this place out. I'll let Matt elaborate on what he had. hehe
Amazing Burgers no doubt. I had the Kobe Beef Burger with Foie Gras. Freaking insanely good. "Ham Burger" Porkbelly minced and made into a burger with cheddar cheese. I actually just ate it when I got home, crazy good. Highly recommend it just plan on getting there early or waiting. Food is very reasonable except for the Kobe burger, its 45 bucks...and worth it.
dude, Bone Garden is great and this review is for another overpriced restaurant I cant afford to eat at for now.
A kobe beef burger almost seems like a waste to me. I'm assuming that it was ground up? That's just silly.
With shaved white truffle and foie gras too.... I don't think it's a waste. It's more of a restructured Steak Rossini. Steak (albeit chopped up but still medium rare), with a Périgueux sauce, topped with foie gras, all on top of a crouton.
Wow I really like the theme: "Burgers gone fine dinning". I just gained two pounds reading this LOL. The German burger got my attn. I love Suarkraut not only becuase I am one......but damn they really captured the flavors in that theme. That is what fine dinning is all about. Utilizing advanced skills and techniques to focus on a certain theme or particular flavors in that theme and/or presentation. It sounds like these guys are right on the mark! The only suspect parts of the review were: "Matt's was awesome, soft nuttiness" & "The buns that it came on was just so soft".......................Hahahaha, sorry couldn't resist!
Another Blais concept...it actually just got a somewhat decent review in CL. Too bad you guys didn't try the foie gras milkshake. That burger Matt ate was a cheap rip-off from Daniel Boulud's db Burger.
It was available, but I REALLY wanted the krispy kreme shake. That was the only reason I wanted to go lol
Boulud's burger sounds delicious but I don't think Blais's burger is a rip off. It's just a different concept that involves the same ingredients.
Just ate there last night before going to Cirque (which was super badass, btw)...best burger I've ever had, hands down (especially for $7.50). Followed in a distant second by Taco Mac's black & blue burger. My opinion, for whatever it's worth...and if you don't like, eat a dick :fawk:
I'm just trying to imagine this gastro-thread on a Corvette forum.... Vortex also do a pretty good black and blue. Hate to veer off to the mainstream, but Ted's fare can't be faulted.
