I want my car to be a sleeper, plus this is the dd/roadtrip car for my wife and I. I was thinking about leaving the stock exhaust on, and just having an upgraded dp to electronic cutout in the forward section. Does anyone have any input about this? Yes, I do know that it is going to be loud as hell, and I am contemplating a solution for this. What do ya'll think?
Get a good quality quiet turbo back instead If you just really like the noise, go for it. But you would need a tune to take advantage of it. Me personally, I would prefer to always have the power rather than having to stop and switch the map every time I wanted to open the cutout.
Thanks for the advice, I was wondering about whether or not switching maps would be necessary or not. Good info! Any suggestions on a good quality, quiet turbo back system?
There are quite a few out there. I am pretty fond of my TurboXS system. It is the one that necks down from 4 inch to 3 inch to 2.5 inch. It is not bad at all.
If I had the $, I would go Borla Hush. I went the cheap route and have sti catback. The problem is that the id of the STI is 2.38". However, since the DP necked to that diameter anyway (I have stromung, but Cobb is the same) I was not too worried about it. It is definately louder than stock, the wife does not complain too much - esp in the car. It is more noticeable outside of the car.
I have no drone in my cat back...and I run a test pipe Oh and the LGT has no drone with the SPT cat back...it is almost too quiet at cruise. It is made by bosal.
There are some higher quality cut-outs. As long as you put the cut-out in the right place it doesn't effect the tune much at all. It is a riot to go from really quiet to straight-pipe loud with the flip of a switch Siegel
I've got a pretty loud turboback and it doesn't drone that much on the highway at all. I would much more highly reccommend you pick up a quality, quiet turboback. The Cobb, for example, sounds wonderful, is surprisingly quiet, and it very high quality. Also it doesn't ave the melon shooter can on the end. Perfect sleeper exhaust. With the cutout you would have to change maps every time you open the cutout to prevent overboosting. Unless you drive a bugeye.
I have a cut out....sort. Greddy Evo2 Catback = quiet car. EWG with atmospheric dump = BUSINESS at WOT! :keke:
Just go with a HKS and see if your wife truly loves you! It comes with a plug if you want it quiet that actually works, I call it the girlfriend mod!
But plugging the exhaust isn't recommended. Makes more backpressure. I plugged my Blitz on the honeymoon and the car drove fine but the ECU was complaining and yanking/adding fuel constantly. Took plug out and ran smooth as butter.
