Does anyone have experience with a VF37?

I am seriously considering a twin scroll VF37 kit that I have found for a pretty good price. It comes with everything I would need to install the turbo (minus the tune of course)

I will be first running this turbo on my 2.0, but it will eventually be going on to my hybrid 2.5 motor.

Does anyone have any experience with the VF36 or VF37 turbos?

GTScoob has one and there may be a dyno plot in a post somewhere on here.

Please realize that a VF-37 is *SMALLER* than a VF-39. It will spool great, but make less power than a normal old VF-39...

    I've tuned a few.

I am not worried about big power. Looking to stay around the 250-300hp mark.

And hopefully you will tune mine in about a month or two. :sx:

You should be able to hit that goal.

250 is no problem, we can almost make that on a stock WRX turbo. 300whp requires at least a VF-39 and FMIC, and is more suggested for something like a VF-34...

I understand the "mystique" and draw of having a twin-scroll, and if you are just a bottom-end/spool junky then have at it. If you have any interest in making power up over 6k rpm, I strongly suggest a bigger turbo.

I responded to your PM and like I said, its a great turbo for low end but it runs out of flow up top. I still have 250whp at 8500rpm which is more than most IHI setups but you can feel it running out of breath after 7000.

One of these days I'll get Jerry at Deadbolt to make me an 1825 which will outspool and outpower the VF37 everywhere but first I need a real job.

I doubt that will happen. I have heard rumors of Deadbolts demise. I hope it is wrong but in these tough times it seems likely to be true.

^^ Yeah, oniguy has been trying to get in touch with Jerry for over a month now with no response. Everything that I have read on nabisco sys they are closed for good. Even one of Jerry's dealers posted the info they had gotten from Deadbolt.

Man, so much for lifetime rebuilds I guess! Never heard a bad thing about them. I wonder what the issue was.

theyd have to have someone either carry out their warranty work or buy it out. Otherwise I'd think he'd be liable for some lawsuits. No where in the rebuilds for life description does it say "unless we go out of business"

Sad but true. Someone will try to sue and then there will be a settlement involving lots of refunds to owners or options to hans someone else rebuild them.

Anyways, the vf37 has always intersted me. Good luck with it.

As far as I know, Deadbolt is closed. We were discussing this on the private vendor forum on IWSTi a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the feed back guys.

And yes, I am a bottom end spool junkie.

I am very back and forth about this right now. I think that in the long run I will end up with either a VF37 or VF36, because they are a unique set up (which I like), and they offer exactly what I am looking for in a turbo. However, over the past couple of days I have been reconsidering the idea of putting that cash into a turbo set-up. I think instead I am going to gather a few more parts for my hybrid motor swap. Possibly looking for a set of WRX heads and STi cams.

You might be happier with a 2.5 over the twinscroll if you're that much of a spool junky. The TS system is a good compromise between low end tq on a 2.0 and high rpm flow but you know the mantra, there's no replacement for displacement.

Well...I was thinking, 2.5 hybrid now...and then Add a VF37 to it later!
