my car drops rev below 300-400 rpm when i pop the gear out to neutral from cruising to slow down, and then it comes back... i have NEW battery and alternator so i thought i fixed the problem, but it is still there.... changed the engine oil but still a problem.

my guess is that i`ve been without the AP for a while but still have stage 2 mods (sti up, helix catless dp, stock midpipe, sti axle-back) i have the AP sitting at my house but i`m waiting for the white plug that works for 03 bugeyes (bought the AP off of upsidedowndesi who has 02).. so hopefully the AP will solve the problem, but if it doesnt who should i seek help from? (dont want to go to SOG and get all my money sapped away)

Clean the IAC...buy a gasket first cause yours will not be reuseable.
Let the car cool first also cause there is coolant on the drivers side.

wut's a IAC and how do you clean & where is the MAF????? sorry for being a noob

    FTZ ^.^

MAF is the sensor on the intake. 2 Screws, and it pops right out. Get a can of MAF Cleaner at Autozone. Probably about $7.

Never heard of IAC, but a quick google for IAC Subaru turned this up

I had a similar problem, and one of my screws on the MAF sensor was unscrewed and well i screwed it back in and its running strong now.

You just need a wire with a spade connector at each end to make a jumper so you can use your AP. There is nothing magical about the Cobb flash block connector. Probably cost about a 1.50 to buy the pieces at Radio shack and you won't blow your motor waiting for the part.

I was having the same problem after I installed a K&N filter. Cleaned the MAF(it was covered in oil and dust) and the problem is fixed.

I am 10 minutes from you and have the connector you need. Usually around after 4:30 or so.

I too have the connector you need and would be happy to let you borrow it if you can't hook up with Mike. I am in S. Forsyth (Johns Creek/ Cumming/ Suwanee area).

ok... i devoted my sunday cleaning the maf sensor and the IVAC... and yea since my car has 120K miles, the screws on the IVAC didnt budge at all so i decided to get the impact screws (wish i did that earlier before i stripped the screw tips haha) and after some drilling, hammering, elbow grease and lots of swearing, i got it out. the screws on the maf sensor wont move either, so i just sprayed the maf cleaner after i just took apart the intake box and the hoses.

    and the result?

well, i wouldnt say night and day, but RPM stays much more stable and the car pulls much stronger. i think i should reflash the ecu right? anyways, took me 7 hours arghhh... seems like whatever takes other people 2-3 hours takes me double the time... o well at least i`m doing things on my own now

Get that MAF out and give it a good cleaning. It might be a pain to get out but I think it will be worth it.

I would also go ahead and get it tuned. It will do well for the longevity of your engine.

arghh i think i would have to use the easy-out on those as well... (i hate how old my car is) also i`m at stage 2 on the AP map, so i think i`m good, but it's just that i`ve cleaned those parts today and i didnt reset the ecu afterwards.

well, the car runs MUCH better and the rev drops arent as severe, but now it drops sometimes to 400... perhaps i do have a leak somewhere.. (ped's mentioned it before)

good to hear the car us running better than before other than the rpm droppnig problem.

Well, that is 2 votes for possible leak.

where did u say i need to double up on the gasket? (i hope it's not a phillips head cuz i`m tired of drilling into screws to fix something simple)

ok... the car is still doing it.. not as bad as before (not as often as before) but the car still drops the rev below 500 (this isnt normal right?)

The Bypass valve gasket (BOV), but only if you have taken it loose before. Other than that just try to check for leaks.
