So I try my AC today for the first time since getting my car back 3 weeks ago from having the engine pulled to remove a dropped nut in the head. The compressor does not engage. I checked the connector on the top of the compressor and it seems to be plugged in fine. What next - a fuse, a relay? Any advice?
Yes, that was my first thought. If it is a fuse though, I would rather just fix it myself than go to the trouble of taking it to the shop.
Sometimes I disconnect the ac lines and other times I swing the compressor off to the side. Ask the people who pulled the motor for you which way they did it.
I checked the plug coming from the harness to the top of the compressor. It was connected. Is there another one that would be obvious that may be disconnected? I guess I will be making a trip back to Troncalli.
Ding Ding Ding. The tell me the hose from the compressor to the condensor (is this the suction or discharge hose?) is leaking. New hose is $200 - total repair $410. So I think I may take a stab at this myself. I can get the hose for $190 shipped from subarugenuineparts. I am assuming that if the refriderant is so low the compressor does not come on it is "evacuated". I can get a DIY recharge kit at Advanced - right. Am I missing anything? Regarding it being related to the engine work, said though it may have been accelerated it did not cause it - so no responsibility. Not so sure, about that but don't know how much further I am willing to go. If I can fix it myself for $200 that is OK.
I wasn't aware of it leaking. It worked fine ( I had used it occasionally in november and December for defrost). Any chance they were damaged when he moved the pump out of the way. I would love to hear any professional opinions on how to handle. I haven't picked it up yet.
