What do the seats look like in your year's WRX, or who knows anything about the different year's seats? I'm planning on buying STi front seats, but apparently there are some '04-'06 WRX seats that have the same fit and support, but they're black and would match better. I've looked everywhere and can't find some factual comparisons.

But I have found this info (PLEASE contribute if you can!!!):

The '04 WRX seats look nice, but I've never seen for certain that the bolsters are actually reinforced vs. just fancy shaped foam.
I hear the '05 seats are the best out there, but I don't know why they're any better than the '04...?
I've seen that the '06 TR seats are two piece, but feel great. And that the non-TR '06 WRX seats are one piece, but I don't know what they feel like.
    I don't know much about '07 seats.

Anything you can tell me about your '04-'07 WRX seats would be excellent! I'm especially interested in '04 seats because I found a set for sale in N.C. and I'm thinking about picking them up. Thanks in advance!

I like my '05 seats...just need a little more lower back support on 4+ hour drives. I'd be happy to post pics or meet up with you if you want to see em.

    $$$$$$

I'll check them at an autoX if I don't have something by then. Let me post a picture of the '04s and see if they look the same to you.

Hmm it's definitely slightly different. Couldn't really tell you why, I think the thread patterns on the whole seat look different and the side ridges look steeper (but it could just be my imagination). I'll be at the March 1st AutoX or I can take a pic tonight.

    Nice ride!

Thanks for the help guys! I see... the fabric is different and arranged different. Looks like the bolsters are about the same though. Are these seat's bolsters firm, or are they shaped foam? I've honestly never sat in an '04-'05 WRX...

Not gonna lie I had to google seat bolsters to figure out what you were talking about,. The outer edge of them is pretty firm with the lower parts flexing to accomodate larger butts. I've had a 400 lb guy ride in my car and he didn't complain too much about it, but at the same time it's a nice comfy snug ride for smaller people. Also helps you slide into the car easier because it naturally guides your rear in, lol. That's about all I can come up with to describe, heh.

Oh and do the '04 seats have the raise/lower crank bar? Mine (driver only) has an arm that cranks the seat forward and up/down.

you mook. you couldn't ride in them because they don't have height adjustment.

    Urban Dictionary's Definition of Mook

Mike - per definition #2, I hope nobody's mooked on your seats

On a side note, the short jokes are getting too redundant...I thought you were more clever than that, Nicad :dunno

So probably less reinforced than STi seats. Hmmmm... Still going to be better than my Forester's flat bench. Thanks for the helpful info!

It would be nice for someone with an '04 to chime in and talk about the supportiveness of the '04s, because that's the year I'm actually looking to buy.

I'd see if Alex chimes in.

As far as I remember, the 04-05 wrx/sti seats were all the same, other than the outer cover.
Seems like the had the same frame and support pieces. But it's been a LONG time since I've done anything with the seats.

Yea I've sat in a few '05 STi's and I don't remember the bolsters being any stiffer, just different fabric and colors. I think you'll be happy with the '04 seats as long as you're getting them cheap.

The 04 seats suck compared to 02/03. They're too wide to be supportive. If you're gonna buy stock wrx seats go for 02/03's

I have an '04, but ive test drove an '05 as well before I bought mine. I dont think they are different at all. Both side bolsters arn't super stiff, but they do keep you in the seat. and i'm a some what of bigger guy when it comes to girth in the seat area :p and i cant really complain.

If i could have any factory seat rigged up in my car though it would be the stock MKV GTI seats. My buddies got an '07 and the sides are supper stiff all around.

Yeah... the '02 is the narrowest, but my fat ass wont fit in them. I had an '03 and I'd ride with the center of my back an inch off the seat and my outside of my butt cheeks would go numb on long trips. haha...

As far as I know the 04 to 07 sti seats are indentical in construction. The materials do vary from year to year however. Regarding the wrx seats of the same model years: these also appear to be identical save for the "cover" design. The bugeye (02-03) seats are also found in the saab 92-x, just with a new "cover". Additionally, the bugeye seats are "coveted" primarily for the fact that the seat itself sits lower, and from my observation is deeper (as in you sit more "into" the seat rather than on top of the seat like the gd sti's).

Something for you to consider before you consider replacing your seats is to remove the springs that "provide" back and butt support. I have seen people suggest that this allows you to more comfortably sit "into" the seat as well as take care of some (and I only mean some) of the notorious sti bobblehead.

Writing from my phone, sorry to make it quick!

The 05 have better material than the 04 seats. The material in the 04 seats are like a basketball jersey material. If you wear pants with velcro pockets you will end up with fuzzy areas on the seat from where the velcro picks the material. The 05 seats are more like microfiber than the 'picky' jersey material of the 04's.

I HATED my 04 seats. And dirt liked to fall in the 'pits' of the material and it was a pain to clean. You had to beat the seats to get the dirt to come out.
