so a special ops cop was working traffic and gave me a speeding ticket and also ticket for failure to update address on drivers license within 60 days.. you can't pay it you have to go to court, but anyone got any experience? it's weird in my situation as I live at 2 places... each a few days each week. My drivers license has one address but my insurance was on the other address since i keep my things there and the insurance company wanted my car insurance and my renters insurance at the same address... although I am not on the lease at the address where my stuff is kept that;s just where my valuables are so obviously the insurance has to be at that address. Any ideas ?
that is a tough one..show that that you reside at both address' some how? Anything in your name that you have with the address on it will probably help... at least thats what I'd like to think! good luck!
Weird, never heard of this. Looked online a good bit and all I can find is that it is code '40-5-149B' with no detail of penalty or severity of charge. That code only showed up on 4 sites...Surely if you explain the situation to the judge and you prove that you check the mail at both residences (think their main concern is you not receiving court summons) it should :sx: get dropped.
plead your case and that should be dropped, if you have like mail that goes to each address then take it for proof, the more proof the better...
I was also thinking that if you had some utilities or bank statements with the date and the same address as your license, then bring those to court and explain that you live at both addressees.
i had my parents address on my drivers license for the longest time 5+ years and have been pulled over plenty of times in that period. the first thing the cop ever asks me is are you still at this address? and i just say yes. never had a problem
i got a warning for it once, no ticket though... just tell them you're a student and it doesnt apply...
why are cops such douche bags. fight that shit in court you will win. multiple addresses, live with a friend temporarily, live with parents, going to school. I can't stand dickhead popo's which most are, except the one's on here.
I always have cops inquire about my address on my license as its for my moms house in Columbus which I moved out of 4 yrs ago. I just say its my permanent address and they dont care. When you go to court just say one's your permanent and the other you just live in. It'd help to bring a bill or something from both addresses too
I do the same thing. I am going to find out what the law is about this tomorrow when I have a meeting with my lawyer.
O.C.G.A. 40-5-33 Generally it goes by where your legal residence is located at... where you keep your clothes, the majority of your stuff, where you get your mail, etc. Just because you hang out at a different address a couple of days a week doesn't mean that it's your place of residence. I believe the only exemption is for active duty military, although if he goes to court and explains the situation he can probably get something worked out.
Some are overlooking the reason he got the ticket - his car insurance card said a different address than his driver's license. I don't think he would have willingly volunteered that it wasn't his primary address otherwise
yeah. the address on the license is my permanent address that's where I get most of my mail and my official address. The address I have on my insurance is where I keep my valuables... and i have state farm renters insurance there for them (I am not on the lease there, however) and state farm requires that I have my car insured at that address since that's where my renters insurance is at.
No worries... like others have said, grab a few bills (someone said bank statements or utility bills, those work well) and take them to court with you to prove that's your residence. Problem solved
