I'm thinking of activating a data plan on my phone and trying to use bluetooth to tether to the laptop as a modem. I've heard of people doing this and they say it's faster than dial-up but not blazing fast. I have no internet at my house as of now and I'm not going to pay my companies competition for crappy dialup.
I had it on my blackberry. It's rather convenient for when you use it. and it can very well be faster than dialup
Even edge is 100-150 kbps...I on my blackjacki used the "share internet" application that was built in. On my iphone i use 'pdanet'
use pdanet. It is a one time fee of $39 for the license and you dont have to pay for the use phone as modem as long as you have some sort of data plan on your phone. Your cheapest route is with sprint because you can get the data plan for any pda for like $15 a month, then pay the $39 license fee for pdanet and you are set. You will need either a WIndows based phone, palm based, or Iphone. http://www.junefabrics.com
I'm with AT&T and I get the unlimited data plan for $15. What's pdanet? I thought that was something for the iphone and I'm not gonna pay the money for an iphone? Researching.......
I deal with cell phones all the time and the Unlimited Data Plan probably does not include using your phone as a modem. All the carriers I deal with charge an additional $15-$50 a month more to use your phone as modem. That is why you need pdanet. It will let you use your phone as modem without your provider knowing.
Gotcha. I've looked on pdanet and it looks like it is for smart phones and pda's only. That correct? I have a Samsung A737 so I don't think pdanet is gonna work for it.
I use my g1 tethered to my pc at work. I have firefox proxied through it so I can browse without being logged by big brother. For work related stuff I use ie going through the company network.
I don't need the iphone data plan. I just need the unlimited $15 stupid phone plan. I got a iclone (CECT i9) which doesn't need that iphone junk.
Nope not an iphone.....CECT i9 aka iClone. Not as feature rich and fancy as iPhone but good enough for me. Does a lot of things iPhone can and has Java 2.0.
