Just purchased my first house. Its got a single door two car garage, and I would like to somehow black out the windows. Don't want to paint them, so I thought of buying some dark tint and tinting them. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas or results from doing something similar themselves. Thanks!
sounds like a winner...people do that all the time you may want to check with whatever HOA you may have to see if they allow it :unamused:
I did this to my brother-in-laws house. I used the darkest tint film I could get, and did 2 layers. You can still see a silhouette of a person when there are lights on in the garage, but you can't see any detail, even with your face pressed up against the window. Since you are working with straight lines and a flat surface, tinting is extremely easy. Took about an hour to do all 6 or 8 little windows.
They make a tint film that adheres via static cling. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=234077-74130-PB78&lpage=none
That static cling shit doesn't work all that well. It will cling to the windows, but you will have large air bubbles that you really can't remove. You are better off going with the traditional tint film.
If you want help tinting the garage windows, I can lend a hand on a weekend. Like I said before, since you are working with straight lines and a flat surface, tinting is a piece of cake.
Yeah, just go to pep boys and buy some limo tint. Flat straight lines are simple to tint. Just make sure you clean the windwos with a razor blade and soapy water before you start tinting.
I used some of the decorative widow decals from Lowes/Home Depot.I was more concerned about privacy then heat.It was applied like regular car window tint but its thicker so to me its easier to work with.
