So tonight..well about an hour ago I..well was an idiot.. received a speeding ticket from Lawrenceville's finest. 60 in a 35. This is my 2nd speeding ticket. Last one was like 3 years ago. I have to appear in court. Any suggestions on what I should do??? Luckily I wasn't ticketed for racing or taken to jail. I feel like a complete idiot and know its stupid...
Ehh shit happens, go talk to the solicitor and see if they will drop it to a speed that only involves one point or no points, usually....especially right now they just want your money.
Yikes, 25 over from Lawrenceville PD? Like Matt said, talk to the solicitor and see what they can do... if your MVR relatively clean they should be able to work something out. Good luck dude...
15 mph but less than 19 2 points 19 mph but less than 24 mph 3 points 24 mph but less than 34 mph 4 points 34 mph or more 6 points defensive driving course -7 points, allowed once every five years. As long as the you did not get reckless, racing or aggressive driving you should be Ok. You could also ask about addtl. community service. They are usually more interested in you paying the fine.....
talk to the solicitor... make sure you apologize and admit it was a mistake and be upfront about it.. no excuses. If they are willing to work with you, they will likely drop it down and take it off your record to keep your insurance from going up. But you will most likely have to do a minor probation or something to that extent. Basically you will still have to pay the "fine" just in a different form. I got caught in sandy springs going 100-110 in a 55, the officer dropped it to 85 in a 55 and then i talked to the solicitor and had to go to 2 speeding classes, write a 1000 word essay and probation. As soon as you get all the stuff they assign you; you're off probo. Sucks but it is all worth it... believe me I learned my lesson.
I got a 28 over in a 45 a few years ago. Had to go to court as well. Before I went though I singed up myself to Defense Driving and brought the papers with me in court. They ended up dropping it to 23 over and only a 200 dollar fine (I was 19 at the time). They even let me keep the Defensive Driving papers to give to my insurance (i dont' know if they are suuposed to keep them or not anyway). oh, and i pleaded guilty.
25... Thanks guys for all the info. He gave me a ticket and wrote "racing GA tag#..blah blah" but ticket was for speeding....very happy I didn't go to jail..
yeahthat sucks you got it in the city of l'ville.......last time i got a speeding ticket from them it was $500. but my record is also HORRIBLE. try and call the soliciter. i just did this thru gwinnett, but the soliciter on my case said there was nothing she could do cause my past record. good luck buddy
lol, point there...so you were only doing like 10mph over? 285 is awful, if you run 80, you're doing 25mph over, but still getting run over by semis running 10mph faster. Sorry, /threadjack
You got lucky. They should have revoked your license on the spot, impounded your car, and thrown you in jail. If I were a police officer and caught someone driving 50+ over the speed limit, nothing, and I mean nothing, would convince me to give you a break, sexual acts included.
If he wrote Racing on the ticket, I would get clarification just to be safe. A judge see's that and you will have more explaining to do.
^^^ yeah i caught that after i posted.. sorry. =] There were no sexual acts involved. And I thought I was going to Jail right there and getting my license cut in half.. but I guess the sucker felt bad for me :keke:
Did you cry? I don't understand why that seems to work for some women. Just because you are emotional, I am supposed to forget that you were driving like an idiot?
i just got back from court a couple hours ago for going 24 over and they were gonna suspend my lisence but the judge gave me a month to contact the trooper. i called him as soon as i got out and he said he would call them to get it reduced so april 7th i have to plead nolo again.
he wrote that i was racing...but wrote the ticket under speeding/code# something i cant read...that make sense? So i assume it won't be as bad..or I'd like to think that...
Well yes, but at the time I thought I was going to Jail & Loosing my license.. not to mention he was screaming at me; which was well deserved. But I apologized relentlessly and fed him no excuses. So he came back and apologized with ticket in hand and sent me on my merry way. Well except he made my boyfriend drive as we were leaving. I see your point though if I were a cop I would not have shown myself any mercy what-so-ever. But it is what it is, and I no longer speed.Lesson learned. =]
So you've never done over 100 on the highway? Anywhere? Not calling you a hypocrit but obviously your lecture is not needed, she admitted it was stupid. Its just hard to believe anybody with a performance vehicle has NEVER tested the speed limit, even if it was to make a pass. There is a difference in driving like a madman dangerously and hauling ass on the highway. I've seen plenty of people pose a greater threat going the speed limit and under than someone just moving fast. /rant I'm not trying to jack this thread and I think this was already an argument. If it needs to be brought back up, bump that thread. Sorry to hear about getting busted man. We all know the consequences before doing the things we do, hopefully it works out in your favor. And thanks for not making a thread bashing the cop like you see on other forums. GL
I never said or implied that I have not broken the speed limit and I am not attacking Subigrl for what she did. I simply noted that she got lucky. You know as well as I do that no Male driver would ever be given any break if caught going 50+ over the speed limit.
LOL no they would have pulled me out of the car with guns drawn... guarantee it....not only would I have not gotten away with it, but they would have taken me to jail for sure. Oh and I'm willing to be on a minimum of 3 cars.
that's not true...and I'm speaking from experience. Not something I'm proud of, either, but I got pulled over doing 135 in a 45 when I was 18 and didn't even get a ticket. It was on a 3 mile stretch of backroad where I lived growing up and where cars were hardly ever on. Doesn't excuse the fact that I did it, but that statement above isn't always true. And I, like subigirl, learned my lesson, too...that was 7 1/2 years ago and I've never been pulled over (for anything, knock on wood) since.
^^^^ Yeah. A similar thing happen to me in Sandy Springs on 285. I was pulled over going 90+ with a cop behind me for a while. I was intently watchin the road and at the time nobody was passing me so I was not checkin my mirrors. Then I noticed the traffic ahead of me all breaking and I said to my passenger there must be a cop arround here somewhere; then I looked in my rearview and the cop was on my ass. Just as i saw him he turned his siren on. I immediately pulled over. The cop was funny; he was so flustered. He was like.... What the hell were you doing.... Where were u going.... did you not see me I was behind you for a while. He was like I was behind you pacing and you were doing like 85 and then you sped up to like 90... or prob 100mph. I was completely honest, accepted responsibility for my actions. Told him I didn't see him and when asked why I sped up I replied I was making a maneuver (dropped a gear to pass). I chose my words carefully b/c I did't want to incriminate myself. He ended up not even asking me to get out of the car and wrote me a ticket for under 25 over. When it comes to me and tickets I just pay em' w/o going to court b/c I have received a ton of speeding tickets in my life and they take a look at my record and will usually raise the fine.
I'm not about to talk crap about someone for doing their job..he was cool...he/they could have taken me to jail if they wanted. Here is what I'm confused by though....it says Speeding - Clocked by Patrol Car. How is this possible when its a two lane road and the other car was in the next lane? Not saying its wrong, just a bit of confusion...
Yeah thats not good.. the only chance you have at saving your license is the solicitor. Don't plead nolo, or guilty etc.. just go talk to a solicitor and try to work something out. Which I'm sure will involve several reckless driving classes. good luck man :sx:
See if you can do a defensive driving class if you are worried about the $$ or points (if you haven't done it already)... Not sure if anyone else here drives up 141 from !-285 but the Doraville cops are ridiculous
were there any other cars around you at the time? Did they get pulled over as well if so? the racing thing seems kinda far fetched....
If it was radar it is not admisable in court as evidence. <-----STATE LAW under Title 40 Chapter 14 article 17 laser is the only admisable speed detection device sutable for evidence. Barrow tried to give me a citation for 74 in a 35 but I let him know he was operating a speed detection device within 500 feet of 3 speed reduction zones, sure enough he took my license checked it back at his car walked back up to my car and I know he was too embaraced to admit he was wrong and told me I was lucky he ran out of tickets.
It is unlawfull for a police officer to suspend or revoke a drivers license only the Department of Public Safety can do that. another "State Law" Most Police do not know what the law is they make it up for thier own gain Just for every ones info State laws for legal operation of a speed detection device in the state of Georgia is Title 40 Chapter 14 articles 2-17 all of the articles are laws so they must be followed by the officers that and the agencies that are autorized.
Yeah, this is true. I was stopped for 35 over and the cop wrote me a ticket and told me just to pay it. Turns out I had to appear, but I plead nolo and gave them a SHIT ton of money and left. It hurt and I will never do so again. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Read 40-14-1(4) defining "speed detection device." It specifically defines it as radar and Vascar. 40-14-17 was written to specifically include lidar as a valid speed detection device (due to its increasing popularity over the last 10 years or so), not to exclude anything else. I have no problem with you citing state law, but be fair. You criticize officers for making up the law for their own gain, and then you twist this code section around to mean whatever you want it to mean. Know what you're reading before you go and present it as fact.
