The local dealership doesnt sell extra-s so what other options are out there? I seached on IWSTI and saw that the Motul 300 syn is ok but the dino Valvoline 75W-90 it the next best thing to the extra-s thoughts? Also it is really necessary to replace the washers on both trans plugs?
I echo getting the Subaru Extra-S. You may have notchiness if you go with something else. Uncle Scotty's cocktail seems to have good buzz on Nasioc (search there for recipe). I have been happy with my extra-S flush. I had to take my own container to the dealer to get the extra-s in less than the 5 or 10 gallon drum that it comes in. Did you try that?
I thought I read something somewhere that Subaru Extra S was made by Valvoline, so the Valvoline 75w90 would be pretty much the same thing.
I'd say Extra-S. I've used the Valvoline in the past and have been happy with it (if you can't get Extra-S)
Could have sworn I wrote a reply in here. We are considering stocking Extra-S and breaking it down in to convenient 1Qt bottles for everyone locally (and cheap UPS ground shipping for Rome). If we do this, we would be able to have in stock in most situations and ready to go in 1Qt bottles Monday to Friday (and Saturday when we move to the new shop space). No more purchasing 5 Gallon cans for anyone!
Confirmed by teH WJM. Although not the stock fill on some of the Subaru Manual Transmissions, it is the recommended fill by SOA and is required on all warranty work.
I was thinking of Rear Diff fluid in STi's that needs a special LSD oil, D'oh. Knew something was different about it
As soon as I find suitable 1qt bottles -- I was on McMaster Carr earlier with Brett looking for some. Hopefully I can make a decision tomorrow on that. If I do go ahead with this, I do intend to keep at least 5gals in stock at all time. Sure, I'll give you a call tomorrow my good sir
