Hopefully this story is only a trilogy and this is the last part. Thanks to Andy the transmission is rebuilt again and ready to go in the car next weekend. I'll post up later what day it is going in if anyone is interested in coming by and hanging out.
what gears did you get and how much was everything total? i'm considering this option for a transmission in the future. I've heard nothing but great things about them
I have the ppg helicals. They are cheaper now due to the weak Australian dollar. A full helical set (1-4) can be purchased for about 3400 which is about 900 -1000 cheaper than the were a year ago. If you want closer ratio gears you shoud consider the m-factory gears. Those are about 1000 cheaper than the ppg's and they are way better than the ra's.
I am in for sure! I have Friday off so if you can make that your "off day"...we need to sync those up anyways.
I'm off at 4:00 on Friday and get home by 5. If we start right away we should have the downpipe off by 10 or so.
5 hours to get the downpipe off! You guys are getting much better I may try and come by just let me know what day your doing it!
It takes about an hour a bolt when your working with Firefly. No I still have the wrench. I also have some new bolts to replace the 13mm ones. These only have an 8mm head so they will be real easy to get a wrench on them without hitting the downpipe.
I've heard 50/50 on them. AndrewTech has went back and put a 400hp max claim on them even though many with 600+ are running fine.
mmm. now do any of you firefly enthusiasts ever drink sweet tea and crown royal? next best summer drink to a crown and ginger ale. so if the PPG is going into the project, whats getting the 4eat, or have I said too much?
damn at road Atlanta all weekend for the bike races. You guys try and hang in there without my moral support! Good luck
Its in and all is good. Took it for a short test drive and it was noticibaly louder than it it was last time but nowhere near as loud as striaght cuts. When I got back home and checked the level again it was a half quart low so maybe that was the part of the cause. BTW a big thanks to 420, techlord and crippies42 for the help.
It wasn't too bad. There were a couple of hours where nothing got done. We tried to swap the motor mounts to some group-n ones I had but it was going to be too much of a pain. I'll just swap them the next time the engine is out.
I'd have the dirtiest car if I did. I just got back from a road trip and have an impressive bug collection on the car. Add in the pollen to the squished bugs and my car is quite a sight.
Glad to hear it in and its awesome that you actually take your car on rd trips and still daily it with the power its making. Shall we plan a trip to the drag strip soon?
Glad things worked out for you. Would have been there to watch and learn but had to finish welding the engine cage on the Ranger so I can start wiring the beast.
I haven't launched it yet because it hasn't been 500 miles yet and I am afraid to. hnoes: The gear whine isn't that bad since I topped of the fluid and I imagine it will be even less once I get past the break in and put some extra-s in there.
Yeah there is a guy in Columbia with 1-2 straight cuts and 3-4 helicals and you can barely hear them. The straights weren't that loud. The PPG set I heard that was insanely loud ended up being a dog box.
