Hello Everyone, I am still on stock suspension. As you guys know we have had some rainy weather in the passed week which made the mud real nice and mushy perfect for some offroading. Well.... ever since i had my fun in the mud i noticed everytime i go over 60 mph my car start to shake really bad.. do you guys think i have messed something really bad.. it seems like it is shaking from the rear but i could be wrong i dont quite know why i think it is shaking from the back b/c the whole car shakes.. but thats just me.. i have washed my car and wheels so there is no mudd on it that would thrwo off the balancing on the tires.. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Anil Ali
you might have knocked off a wheel weight, or you probably knocked the car out of alignment, i would check into both of those as a start...
Go to GTE or any shop that you trust that does tires and alignment. I agree with what has already been said it's the best place to start. Hopefully it's just some missing weights.
does the car pull one way or the other or just shake really bad? probably wheel / alignment issues, but you might want to double check all of your suspension pieces and make sure it's all still intact.
okay but as far as like a messed up differencial do you think that could be it?? i'm a little nervous to go into a shop to have it checked out i want to know what to expect when i take it in.. i didnt even abuse it a lot.. i drove really slow and then just a donut and not like a harsh one the car just did it by itself i just had to direct it.. so i wasnt harsh with it .. i hope its just the balancing.. Thanks guys! aneeL
i noticed the car does pull just slightly towards the right.. but just a tad bit sometimes it doesnt.. or maybe it does im just not able to notice.. i could have put that into just one post but oh well.. post count is low anyway hehe aneeL
I have the same thing after my outing Off-Roading. Before the outing, my steering wheel would shake badly only around 80-85 miles per hour on the highways. Now, after the outing, my steering wheel is shaking between about 60+ on the highway. I am not overly concerned about it. I am pretty sure it is either a wheel weight, or alignment issue. I plan to take my car to GTE in the near future to have the alignment checked, but will probably wait until I can get my car off the ground and inspect everything underneath.
btw what does GTE stand for? I'm trying to google it so i dont sound too much like a noob but i don't see any company dealing with automotive... btw does yours shake like VIOLENTLY? like enough to scare your passangers? lol aneeL
It is just my steering wheel that shakes, not the entire car, or at least I didn't notice the entire car shake. I have not had a passenger in the car since my outing, so I can't say if a non-driver notices anything.
clean your rims! you still have dirt on them which makes the wheels unbalanced IF that is not it then it's what everybody else said.
thanks i washed my car but maybe there is some mud left inside the wheel.. also is GTE pretty reasonable with the pricing? I will probably do a 4 wheel alignment and balancing..
You'll have to come down after the El Camino is finished and we'll put yours and the "coyote's" on the rack and check things over.
Just washing the outside wont cut it. You wouldnt believe how much mud can get packed on the inside of a rim. it doesnt take much the throw it out of whack either. Back in my younger days I spend lots of time off road with a variety of vehicles. That mud can cause all kinds of vibrations. I had once I could even drive over 40 MPH b/c of the mud in there. Thats an extreme case but have you checked the inside of your rims? In the end, I agree with the other posters. I would do the following: 1) Wash 2) Balance 3) Alignment (GTE FTW! - they'll ask you how your drive, what you are looking for, etc. Very good shop)
$100 for what service??? aneeL And thanks for the info i jsut got home from washing it again it helped a little.. how much did GTE charge you?? aneeL
It is about $100 for a Four Wheel Performance Alignment. For a Performance alignment, they will have you sitting in the car when they adjust your settings to account for your weight. When you drive off their lot, your car will feel incredible. It is well worth it.
Ohh yeah. When will you be back in town? any point next week. I am trying to find a spot to put the stock suspension back on.
okay guys... i took off alll of my wheels today and saw all the mud that was caked on the inside of my wheell.. i couldnt see it and when i washed my car(twice) and pressure washed between the spokes it didnt help much.. now my car is riding smoother then before.. there was a LOT of mud caked up in there.. thanks for the help EVERYONE all i need now are my rotors and pads to come in the mail.. a turbo back coilovers and ill be set for the summer =] aneeL
