So as many of you may or may not know, the flavored tobacco ban which includes all flavoring except menthol, to include all cloves, shishah(hookah smoke), blunt wraps, swishers etc goes into effect Sep 22nd. I've never been much of a regular cigarette smoker but have been enjoying Djarum cloves for the past year or so. It won't be that bad quitting but i wanted to get everyone's thoughts on why the FTC is getting so directly up in my business under this administration. Obama is a smoker himself, why the f would he pass this??? argh...
It's called the Democratic Socialist party mantra of "cradle to grave" When you give up your freedoms under the guise of it's the government responsibility to care for you, you end up with bullshit like this. Granted flavored tobacco products are the least of my concerns, just another example of the heavy hand of government slapping us down.
Anti-tobacco groups have been working on this for years. The whole argument was that ridiculously flavored products are obviously targeted towards kids. Cloves and hookah are just collateral damage (which I never really considered). I'm pretty sure they were worried about products such as this: Edited: Slightly intoxicated
I'm not one to be quick to jump on the socialist band wagon but things like this are really starting to push my buttons. what you said there sounds smart but it really doesn't make sense.
That little guy? Don't worry about that little guy. (anytime I hear the word Socialism, I automatically face palm. And I'm far less tactful at articulating such feelings when I've been drinking)
http://rpc.senate.gov/public/_files/L14S982FamilySmokingPreventionFDATobaccoControl060109ac.pdf Thats the link. I think, honestly, it might only be geared toward cigs.
I think this is rediculous. I mean, why not ban fruity flavored alcohol, bright colored pills and Scions? All of which encourage young people to do bad things.
Grape flavored tobacco I can understand, but this better not remove "sweet" cigars from the stores. Reminds me of a bit from Denis Leary's No Cure for Cancer. Next you'll have to hide under your bed with the blinds closed to smoke.
yeah!? this is my main concern... are you saying after September 22nd I won't be able to pick up a blunt wrap or cigarillo at the store? (or will the just get rid of all the cigarillo flavors and leave regulars?)
imagine getting busted for possesion of swisher sweets.... tobacco = good strawberry tobacco = bad wtf I don't even smoke and it pisses me off
I can't see how they could enforce it. Just like a couple years ago when they raised the tax on Cigarettes drastically. When that happened I started buying Cigarettes online from Turkey for $15 a carton including shipping. It was illegal, but how is the government possibly going to stop it.
I can understand blunt wraps and all, but will it go as far as cigars..ie, the Acid brand from Drew Estates? They are infused with botanicals and other flavors, like sangria.
I'm writing a letter to obama to get him to ban these other "adolescent marketed products" that could lure children into making the wrong choices. rainbows crayons koolaid dildos in any color other than flesh horshoes flavored/colored condoms teletubbies the smurfs tool andy dick microwaves
Can we ban fruit flavored beer first? That and black and milds, those are the worst of the 'flavored' tobacco.
It was yessmoke.com. Shipping took about a month, so I had to plan ahead. Bought 4 cartons and as soon as the shipment arrived, ordered 4 more. I did that for well over a year.
Yes fairly sure they're included. I guess the 14 year olds go up to the shell station, look at those double platinum wraps with the woman's ass cheeks on the front and say "yea lets get hooked on tobacco!"
The bill establishes new standards for tobacco products that restrict the additives that can be included in cigarettes. Beginning three months after the date of enactment, cigarettes cannot include characterizing flavors except menthol.
I wonder when they are going to care about the additives that make it more addictive or harmful? You're banning flavors??? really? What's next smells? A ticket for wearing too much perfume? Although, some people need a ticket for the BO ... or better yet some soap.
Those look good, I'd like to try 'em before they are banned. Where do you get them from? Arrrrrrrgh! No more flavored cigars/blunt wraps; i'd better stock up.
Group buy?? anyone..? This program is admitted to cost up to 500 million $ a year..hello. Now I have to go out and buy cases of flavored cigars and became a 'law-breaker'. We need the government to protect us from ourselves..But thats ok since they are all good guys..
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-1256 that has a copy of the bill. In the Q&A section there is a question about blunt wraps and the answers say that they are not included :sx: YET. I dont know how factual they are because they are user submitted answers.
Even if Blunt Wraps and the like are banned, they will still be available in Head Shops. You all will just have to act like stoners and make a trip to your local Starship, Smoke 911, etc... Honestly, I am all for them banning flavored tobacco at Gas Stations and Supermarkets.
