Hey guys, Anyone around here weld worth a damn? I've got a miller TIG/Stick welder at home. It's really nice, does DC only (carbon/stainless). Was wondering if anyone around here can TIG and might be willing to show me a few things. Free (uber fresh) beer to those who can  I'd like to get an AC Welder to fab up Aluminum. I may trade up later down the road. A plasma cutter is likely on the horizon also. Screw buying turbo kits, I'll make my own :fawk:
yeah. =D I'd be willing to stick two things together for people if they want. Gives me something to practice on!
TIG is VERY nice but is not easy to learn on initially. One you get the hang of it, its easy. I MIG a shit ton of shit all the time. I used to stick...I started out on the old ass stick technology.
harbor freight carries one =o most every one i've seen is 220v also I get good deals from airgas since I work for AB. Picked up 10lbs of 316SS rod for $10  Scoobyblk: sure thing man. do you happen to drink anheuser busch products? :coolugh:
Welding stainless steel is a PITA, almost as much as Aluminum (thats why car companies glue/fasten their aluminum frames together instead of welding). And if you ever think of welding Titanium just remember you need to do it in a partial vacuum :eek4: I personally have only done some MIG here and there. If you want to make a get together out of it, you can come on down to my fraternity at Tech. RamblinWRX, dontcallitarex and myself are all in the same frat and we have a bunch of scrap metal and a crappy MIG welder to practice with. I fixed a hanger on one of my exhausts with Ramblin. Looks ugly as shit, but hey it works and the only way to get better is practice. With beer.
ahhh tech. I went there before I joined the military. you guys in GTAuto or whatever it was called? sounds cool. I dunno if you guys would want to come up here, I got a bunch of beer lying around and other distractions. I'm working on getting a plasma cutter, but that may be a while. my immediate project is a still to make some moonshine with. I've rummaged up about 5 foot of 304 SS piping and some flanges here at work in the SCRAP DUMPSTER. we throw away all kinds of scrap metal and it's free for the taking, and food grade. =D we have a bunch of sanitary/food grade welders, but I don't know any of them. I may start asking around and see if anyone of them would be willing to teach.
I think I'm getting the hang of things. been practicing some butt welds on 3/8" stainless I pilfered from work. woot. salvaged about 5 ft of 304 SS pipe from work today for my still, yay!
i just started working here in atlanta at Welding Services Inc. I am a TIG field tech. Now being i just started i probably couldnt do it, however i know a lot of guys who probably could help out. Let me know.
What's a good inexpensive welder for home use? One that you can weld aluminum with? I know they are all expensive but I'm talking one of the cheaper ones. I've seen TIG's for sale for $300-450 but dunno if it would do what I want to do....weld aluminum piping and SS stuff.
You can MIG aluminum not too bad. If you're looking to TIG Aluminum, you'll need a machine capable of outputting AC. Welding SS will be DC (electrode negative usually). If you get an AC machine to do aluminum, 99% likely it will do DC also. A cheaper tig machine will lack some nice features (high frequency arc start, pulsed tig, etc) but will get the job done just the same.
new welder. thanks breel for the hookup edit: this means I can weld aluminum, titanium, magnesium, etc now
it has wheels... that's about it it's transformer based, so very heavy. but very reliable and smooth arcs
Mobile? about 350lb of mobile and does a good job of lowering Volvo's at that You got a hell of a deal and if you'll send the serial # to me I'll find out which route you can go for the pulse add on. About a hundred for a 250amp 25' water cooled torch, Rep is suppose to get back to me on the demo cooler for a steal also.
lol, i think what he was saying is he sold it to him for too little: i.e. Breel sold the welder to Nicad at a "steal"
