So I am about to do my first oil change on my STi, and I glance under there to size up what wrench I need to grab for the plug to find the plastic scrub garud that protects the bottom of the motor\tranny from damage in the event of bottoming out. Then I look to see what it is attached with...

    Those damn pop clip bast*rds...

Has anyone came up with a clever solution to getting rid of things stupid things and using something else to attached the plastic splash garuds and such with?

You mean to tell me no one has come up for a replacement for these things yet... *face palm*

I was able to use some plastic dry wall screws for the wheel well splash garud on my sentra, but something tells me it isnt that simple on a subaru... lol

No just use them correctly. They will be nice to you if you are to them. I.e. Don't break them

Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove them, they don't break too often. But if they do break, you can buy more of them for relatively cheap.

Just remember, the plastic tray is not structural so securing it with metal bits would be extra weight really. And there are a bunch of those plastic tabs all over the car.

That is what I thought, I am going to be in a bad mood thursday afternoon... lol

I broke 6 out 8 of the clips trying to get them off the sentra... I had better stop by the dealership and buy some more tomorrow or wensday...

nicad Yes I am a troll

snapon actually makes a little pry bar that pulls the center section up quite nicely

    probably costs $600 though

    Center section of what up?

If you are talking about lifting the entire car up, I really have no need for that I have a good floor jack and 4 jack stands.

But that does sound like a tool I would want later down the road to change wheels easier. :wiggle:

I hate those clips as well... Especially with my Fumoto valve, it takes me 4 times longer to R/R the undertray than it does to change the oil/filter.

Wow... I am going to go to home depot and see if I can find something that works for $20 lol

I bet they sell a pair of plyers that have a flag head screw driver type end of both sides pointed inward.

a small flathead and press the head of the clip about halfway back in and they pop right out.

take them apart, put the female part in first and then push in the male part.
