Well, my trusty (huge) old HP 6945 Phone/Pocket PC/GPS is dieing... I'm definitely staying with T-Mobile, and I do thousands and thousands of texts per month. I have unlimited data, but the internet is very cumbersome on my current phone so I don't use it that much. I've played with the iphone a good bit but they seem to be $250+ unlocked. Everybody I know with a Blackberry loves it, same with the G1's.

I know there are some people with major cell phone knowledge on here... All help picking and finding a phone is much appreciated.

I would recommend a black berry for someone like you. You can use messenger basically as free texting. So all your customers, clients, employees, etc with blackberrys can message you for free. On top of that blackberry Internet is pretty simple to learn/use. Even though it's not full Internet (unless u got the storm, which is only on verizon), it's still easy to navigate. I love my iPhone but like you said they are expensive unlocked and then they aren't warrantied by apple at that point. Plus you're gonna have greasy fingers smearing/scratching the screen all day. I guess it's either that or grease/dirt gettng in the keys of a blackberry tho. So pick your poison. I just think a blackberry suits your needs a little better. This coming from someone who has owned both: 2 blackberrys and 2 iPhones and loved all of them.

I guess that's why you never responded to my text last night. :p

2.5 - LOL. Yours would be one of the many texts that I see pop up, but then the phone locks up and when I restart it, those texts are gone...

BC - excellent points. It think the dirt would be easier to get off a touch screen than a keyboard...

The mytouch looks pretty good too. I've played with Ashley iTouch and I can type WAY faster on its virtual keyboard than on my HP's real keyboard... If the mytouch's Vkeyboard is that good, that might be what I get...

A buddy at work has the previous model I guess or maybe this one for ATT, I think it is bad azz. Other than screensize and perhaps available apps it kicks the iphones butt.
I am looking into this phone as well

Honestly it all depends on what you use it for. Both the Blackberry and G1 are very versitile phones. iPhone to me is over rated. With grease and dirty issues I will have to say that blackberrys are very sketchy with becomeing dirty, especially the roller ball. I had a curve for 2 years and I replaced 3 roller balls in it in that amount of time. I just got my G1 and honestly I love it, I am a big google fan so I use all the google products, works well. Blackberry has many apps as well as far as staying connected, not as many as G1. The G1 has almost 3 times the amount of RAM the Blackberry has, making multi applications running super smooth. The greatest cost of having the G1 is the battery life. I unplug my phone at 6:30am and at 3:00pm I have to plug it back up. I also use Bluetooth everytime i am in the car, WiFi when i am at work and home. I send probably 80-100 txt, emails, and IM's. As well, and if it is a slow day Im playing some kind of game on it as well. The G1 is a hell of alot faster too in my opinion compared to the Blackberry.

So like i said its all about what you want. G1 now comes with a keyboard and without (but the one without a keyboard is acutally called MyTouch aka HTC Hero, its the same damn thing though) The MyTouch has a little more memory, but if you txt a whole hell of alot, you will find curving over to touch-screen-keyboard a challenge.

The Touch Pro 2 is a awesome phone, but dont believe it will be available with T-mobile. You can always go up to the store and buy one, tmobile will let you try the phone for 15 days, if you dont like it bring it back and get something else. So go try both, and take the one you like the most.

I have an iPhone for personal use and am about to get a blackberry for business use. In a corporate setting I would recmmend the bb definitely, but I like my iPhone more than bb's

For those that are suggesting one's with real keyboards, have you tried the latest VKB's? I thought it was easier than my real kb... the mytouch is winning right now..

Why not the Palm Pre on Sprint? The simply everything plan is by far cheaper than any of the other carriers.

I test a lot of phones for my company including the Blackberry's. The storm is pretty nice but really do not care for any of the BB's I have tested. I had a Pre for a few days and it was a very nice phone. I don't know about the reliability or battery life since I only had it a few days. I am also a very big fan of all the windows mobile phones. I love the Iphone as a gadget phone, but don't see it being practical for a business phone, hence why we do not use them at my company.

Scott...have you been with TMobile for 2 years or more? The have the unlimited evertything plan for $85. If you get an iPhone, from what the TMO reps told me the other day, you will not have 3G, iTunes or the app store.

BB's are solid and might be all you need. The TP2 might be overkill, unless you want another mini PC that makes phone calls...like me.

I've been with tmobile for 10+ years ;) If I get a 3g iphone, doesn't that work with TMO's 3G??? The itunes and app store are online, I use them with Ashley's iTouch...

I just wonder if the new VKB's are so good that I don't need a RKB. I think I'm going to "try out" a mytouch. I'll know if I like it in 3 days, so if I don't, I can return it ;)

I will agree if that $15 flash light that you carry around gets sold to me right away

But 3gs, not the typical 3g has much more stable network connection that is VERY fast, I tried to load a page on both my 3g and applestore's 3gs and the 3g cannot even come close. Plus the fingerprint/smear resistant coating on the 3gs is also convenient.

i find that sometimes the edge network loads data faster on my 3G. and also just turining the 3G off from time to time (like when i'm out in the middle of nowhere) helps with battery life. its not always trying to stay connected to the highest bandwidth or whatever.

but verizon doesn't have any ground to stand on here, my sister dropped her service with them because she never had a signal. come to find out she went in 2 weeks after dropping her service that not only were they still trying to charge her for a phone she didnt have, but they don't even have any towers/coverage in our zipcode (just south of savannah/fastest growing area of savannah). so i'm still happy with my AT&T coverage, and have been for the last 5-6years

No...the 3G will not work, different frequencies.

I played with the MyTouch 3G also, cool phone, the screen is kinda small, form factor is nice...I hated the VKB, but there other ones available to download.

Let me rephrase something...no mobile access to the App store when using iPhone on TMobile.

good find matt. yeah i am happy with my bill. i pay less than $90 a month. i have the 900mins w/ unlimited nights, weekends and rollover (have over 8000 rollover mins). i have unlimited date (can't get anything other than that for the iphone) and I have 1500 texts a month (I only average ~500-650 a month, but they only offer 250, 1500 or unlimited). through at&t and i also have a corporate discount (when i worked at bestbuy) and get 21% off my service each month.

at&t (and from what i understand, just about every carrier) offers discounts to just about everyone. just ask. not neccesarily the company you work for but also because you own your own business, clubs, or groups you belong to, etc.

I had been holding out for a good handset running Google's android for a while, and read about HTC's latest offering, and even played around with the MyTouch at a T-mobile shop (even though it's not out yet), but I ended up buying an iPhone, because in my opinion the Android OS wasn't as intuitive or polished as the iPhone's, and the build quality of the iPhone felt more solid.

The virtual keyboard works great, except the aftermarket heavy-duty Otterbox defender hard-shell case has about a 4mm raised ridge around the screen that sometimes get's in the way of my fingers when selecting keys that are near the edge of the screen.

I wanted the ability to run multiple apps in parallel, and the android and palm pre can do this, but 3 weeks after using my iPhone 3GS, and with the offering's of the iPhone app store I'm really happy with the call quality, and coverage so far.

Also 3G speeds have been acceptable when not on a local wifi connection. earlier I tried to surf on a 3G model and it was too slow for me.

I've installed the Cisco GIST bandwidth test client on the iPhone 3GS and my 3G download speeds average at 1100 Kbps with a low of 1001Kbps.

I guess if a 3g phone can't use 3g on TMO, maybe I just need an older iphone. I suppose I could trade one hour of tuning for it...

Such a ripoff when you can sign a contract and get a 3G from AT&T for $99, or sign a contract and get a new 3GS for $299.

I have been watching eBay ever since the 3GS was released, hoping to be able to upgrade to a 3G for a decent price. Not going to happen apparently. At least I was able to get a cracked screen iPhone at work, so this coming weekend, I am going to build me a frankeniPhone by combining my good screen but can't place or receive calls and can't use the MP3 player iPhone with the cracked screen but everything else seems to work for the moment iPhone to have hopefully one properly working and non-cracked iPhone.

An all in all it will cost me $4.99 for the iPhone Case popper tool I ordered.

Please Matt, could you fill us in on what makes T-Mobile a sub-par network?

I'm going on 6+ years...no problems and $85 for unlimited everything.

well...over in Europe where it's based, it's awesome.

over here, and it could be due to the FCC, but they are subpar when it comes to their network.

their customer service is a joke, actual phone service isn't all that great either.

the one good thing they have going for them is pricing. But, they have to do that since their service sucks. One thing I'm not a fan of from them is their whenever minutes.

http://cell-phone-providers-review.toptenreviews.com/ this is a good site to compare the different companies.

I've heard too many friends with t-mobile and their horror stories when compared to (so far, 2) friends who don't have a problem with them.

these are my thoughts on the matter. ;)

so, I'm guessing you've never actually had a phone on their network?

I can't remember the last time I had a dropped call or a problem making a call.

I used to have Tmobile and switched to Sprint because I hated them. Had call issues quite often and the customer service was inexperienced to know how to respond.

Since I test phones at work, I have used all of the carriers and can tell you that they are all about the same. There is not that is really any better than the other. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I would say find a phone you like with a plan you think is reasonable and go for it. I wouldn't base my judgement on any phone just because I wanted to stay with Tmobile or Sprint.

With that said, I am a big fan of Sprint soely because they have probably the best rates when it comes to data/phone/text.

I have T-Mobile for personal which is great for the extended family spread all over, and ATT for business. They both have seemed to work well for me over the past 5 years.
