It's time for me to get new tires, and I'm wanting to know who offers good pricing on performance tires for a 2006 STI?

I'm thinking of going with 235/45-17's but I may stick with 225's.

Any opinions on Dunlop Star Spec's, Re-11s? I'd like to hear recommendations.

I liked my RE070's and I wouldn't mind another set but they're a bit on the high side and I think I'd like something with a little more than 140 tread wear with good strong side-walls.

i know the star specs won a test from tire rack. i have heard nothing but good things about the two. I am also in the market for tires and am considering the kuhmo xs'. I had a set of those on my 240 before i got it and they are a killer deal for the grip you get. i believe they are 160 a tire in 245/40/17 compared to 180 or so for the star specs. from the tire rack test the star specs were better in the wet and about the same in the dry as the kuhmos

Yeah tire rack is good, but I have yet to find anyone better than discount tire for INSTALLED prices. They will price match just about any online dealer including tire rack. And the convenience of their road hazard warranty can't be beat. There is a discount tire around almost every corner in the atl area. My roomate got them to replace a tire on his truck because of a bad alignment (lifted truck), they basically turned their heads and did it for him. Gave him a brand new tire free. And most of the guys in the front office know their stuff and won't try to bullshit you. Just go in tell them what you're looking for and they'll make sure you get the best price. The one on busbee behind town center mall in kennesaw is the store I'd recommend.

Go to GTE, they will give you a good deal, and can help with tire choice.

The Star Specs are known to be good, I know a lot of guys running those. Patrick had some new kumho XS on his car and said they were great, and cheap.

I have also used both Yokohama AD07 and AD08, and they are AWESOME tires, but a tas bit expensive compared to the Star Specs and XS.

Consider the Falken ziex ze912. Got a treadwear of 360. Great wet tire and pretty grippy dry. Autocrossed on them and they held up and handled very pretty well. Price is great too. Recommended them to wrxcoupe and is very happy with them.

  7. I just found this company, 2832 Anvil Block Road Ellenwood GA, 30294: www.Treadepot.com

I have never used them, but there prices are hard to beat. Has anyone used these people before?

That is Kauffman's online mail order store I believe.

    Those prices are okay: example

    Dunlop Z1 starspec after tax/shipping
    Tirerack: $130----- $616.53
    Treadepot: $151----- $646.28

so if you can find a place that will price match tirerack and NOT charge you shipping (somehow), that will most likely be the cheapest. Or get a bargain price on mounting and balancing if you purchase tires at the store.

Kuhmo Ecsta 235/45ZR17 cost the same as dunlop start specs, sitting at $130 a tire. I am tempted to give dunlops a try to see if they live up to the hype

I've got the star specs on my car and they are by far the best tire I've had.

Re-11s blow z-1 starspecs out of the water.

with 60% price increase over starspecs, i expects them to.

I'm like a tirerack whore today, I just checked prices again on Re11 and also noticed the New Advans Ad08 nevoas are the same price 235/45/17, both around the 200 dollar mark. Wonder which is better since they are not much feedback because both are newly released.

    oops..wrong thread.

All of my business goes to Kieran at GTE. He always takes care of me and his alignments are the best in Atlanta.
