Economic/Performace Tires

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by wileycoyote0022, Aug 13, 2009.

  1. So I am looking for a tire that has a good stiff side wall as well as fairly sticky, but doesnt have a low threadware for a 225 55 16R. I dont wanna spend an arm and a leg for tires. Any suggestions? What does everyone think of Kumho Tires? Specificly the Kumho Ecsta ASX.

My snow/ offroad tires are Hankook 409's and have held up for the short time I've run them, they also have some nice performance tires as well and a good price through Pep Boy's

check out the yokohama s-drives at discount tire.

  4. So correct me if I am wrong but Hankook 409 are more Truck tires? and where do you see performance? They are H rated??? lol

I like those, I was hoping to find a lower treadware, but if I cant its cool I just need stiffer side walls. Ask Shiring feels a little soft.

I got my Kumho SPT for fairly cheap and they feel even better than the Goodyear GS-D3 i had on before.

remember the three rules when buying tires:

    1.Price
    2.Performance
    3.Longevity

and you can only pick 2

i must've posted that a trillion times, it really applies to just about any aftermarket part the last 2 are usually interchangeable with rules applying specifically to those parts.

    this should be stickied, lol

  7. Very true, if I found the perfect ballance of peformance and logevity (meaning close to or over 400 treadware) i would pay a good penny for those.

performance and longevity do NOT go hand in hand.

best tire I've come across is the Falken FK452. They are an all season but perform like a sport tire. Def recommend those

But at the same time they are NOISY! That's one thing I can't stand with every tire I've owned.....NOISE. Never will I ever buy cheap tires again.

I must be deaf cuz I can't hear anything coming from them....then again I do have an obnoxiously loud exhaust.

I have the star specs on the car now and they are awesome as well

I also have to recommend the FK452s. They do get noisy as they get older but what performance tire doesn't? It looks like I will get about 25k out of mine.

I'd say I have about 15+k on mine and there's more than half tread left on them...

x2 on Falken fk452. I've had them for a year and a half and am quite satisfied. I'm going to be switching to Bridgestone Potenzas after these, but that's largely due to brand loyalty and a sweet employee discount :naughty:

I've seen good reviews for these on forums.

I just ordered these in 235/45-17's from a local Discount Tire store for effectively $135/ea. I think they were listed at $148/ea

What's the tread life like on the Star Specs?

I think they're rated at 180, so I'd say short.

    The RE070's I'm replacing are rated at a 140, I don't know how standardized
    the ratings are though.

Yeah the tread rating between manufacturers doesn't really correlate. I would love to get the star specs but I drive like 20k+ every year. Its bad enough to have to get new tires every year as it is.
