Exhaust heat wrap

going to be wrapping my new header but was wondering where i can get the wrap from... is there anywhere local besides summit?

i had checked the advanced and autozone near my house and they said they didnt have it... i will check some of the other parts stores... do they sell the kits with the clamps and all?

 

Barnett does and the Advance next to my house is where I bought my last set of clamps from.

 

I bought my kit from Auto zone..........

 

wwill one kit be enough to wrap a header or will i need more?

 

ask sean, i think he got one. it did the hot part of his intercooler and his downpipe


i think there are different packages/lengths one has more wrap than the other

 

my buddy is thinking of doing his dp but has heard good and bad... any thoughts on this???

 

One kit is enough to do headers.

The only bad is that it can deteriorate the pipe faster.

 

because it stores moisture and heat cycle hotter

 

i was wondering is there any specific brand you should look for when buying heat wrap

 

I like the DEI stuff. You can get it online or at the local Advanced/autozone.

 

I was impressed with the Prosport heat wrap. It's half the price and flexible so you don't have to wet it.

 

That' why you spray it down with high temp silicone sealant after it is wrapped and dried.

 

That helps but the wrap will still hold moisture. It is a double edge sword using wrap. It keeps temperatures down in your engine compartment but that heat is kept inside of the wrap. This heat will cause your metal pipes to corrode at a rapid rate. Why do you think most of the header manufacturer void your warranty if you say your header was wrapped?
