Falken 452s

Anyone have any experience with these tires? I am looking at 225/50/16 on stock wheels (04 wrx). Also, does this size run into any issues of rubbing with coilovers? Sorry for the noob ?, I'm still getting used to Subie fitments.:bigthumb:

 

Yes, I've had those tires.
NO. They'll fit unless you have a wagon. That size is wide/normal.

I ran 245/40/17 on a wiiiide rim on my bugeye without hitting the strut. I did hammer out the fender in the rear, but that was easily beat into submission.

I have had two sets of these tires. The first I bought, and the second came on a set of wheels I wanted. They are not performance tires at all. If you're looking for average tires, these are good. If you're looking to improve the handling and performance of your car, get something better. If you did a 215/40/16 in a Falken 615 or somehting like that you'd really notice an improvement.

 

I'm finishing up a set right now. If it wasn't for the fact that I now work for another tire company, I'd definitely consider 4 more.

I agree with everything else you said, but...

I'm not saying you're going to want to get these if you're autocrossing or tracking your car, but these are definitely solid performance tires for the street. They are leaps and bounds better than the stock RE92s, and they were marginally better than the toyo proxes 4s I was running before.

You're not going to do too much better than these for the price (without a serious decrease in tread life)

PS, Tasty, how wide of a rim were you running. I'm making the jump to 245s on my 17x8, and am curious if I'll be able to get away without rubbage

 

I had them on 8.5s. On an '03 with 8's and 245 you'll probably need to roll the rears a little. It'll be fine, BUT you WILL notice a considerable amount of "squirm" as the tread and sidewalls roll around on the rim. A 245 really needs a 9" wide rim to be responsive. If you have 8's, you may want to consider 225/45s. They'll have the same amount of rubber on the road and be more responsive, lighter weight, and less rolling resistance. It'll perform better than a 245. Wiiiiide tires are something for 2WD cars that spin a lot. I put 245/40's on my 8's and compared to the 235/45 they replaced I was so unhappy I bought 9" wide rims to use them with. 8" rim = 225 no matter what.

 

And if you're buying high mileage tires, who cares about "performance" because you're not REALLY worried about "performance" anyway...

If you're rockin' more than a 200 treadwear and loving them you don't know what real tires can do for you....

 

I loved the 452 and will probably go back to them soon because my 615's are bald as crap and i want something with more treadwear than the 615's for now. They handle pretty good for its worth but nowhere near as good as a good performance tire, but if u arent tracking the car they will do you just fine.

 

Thanks a lot for all the input guys. Coming from the rwd arena I have heard a lot about them but wasn't sure how they would translate to the grip world. I will basically be using these on the street, but "track" capabilities would be a plus. Looks like I may have to take a look at some other options.:bigthumb:

 

That is great to know! I had also been looking at that tire, but had no real info or experience with Hankook before.

 

My 452s are ok for just highway driving anything else dont count on them. I can slide the car around with no effort even with warm tires.

Back to 615s once these get worn out. I believe my Kumho ECSTA ASX actually performed much better and are right around the same price I believe.
