Wheel Bearing

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by wileycoyote0022, Oct 23, 2009.

  1. So before I headed up into the mountains last weekend, my front passenger side wheel bearing was making a little bit of noise, but only under pressure, didnt think anything about it. After the mountain run, as I expected it got louder. My question is do you think the hub is ok, and I can just replace the bearing? Where is the stress point in the assembly where it is squeeling from? I am hoping I can just replace the bearing and be done with it. Cause hubs are like 75+ bucks.

most of the time you can get away with just replacing the bearing but its one of those things where you really just need to take it apart and look at all the parts to be sure of what needs to be replaced.

  3. Good deal, do you know if anyone keeps a hub in stock just in case I do need one. I only want to buy it if I really have to? Does AllPro keep them stocked?

We will be pressing out a wheel bearing on Wagunz_pwn's car on Sunday, and pressing a new bearing in. We will be doing this at pEd's if you are interested in coming to help.

I have a spare bearing laying around if you need one. I bought 2 bearings from a seller on Nasioc a while ago, but the bad bearing on my hub fused to the hub and we couldn't press it out. I ended up pulling an entire Hub off Techlords banana WRX, so I didn't use either of the hubs I bought.

I eventually took the hub with fuzed bearing to GTE and they cut the bearing off, so I have an available hub as well. Buy the bearing, and if you need the hub, just trade and we can call it even.

    Bearing is $50.

FWIW, when my bearing went I had to replace the hub as well.

Troncali Subaru had both in stock. Prices were high, and they were a little surprised to see me bring in the knuckle w/o a car atttached to it, but they did have everything there.

My bearings made noise for months and my hubs were fine when we replaced the bearings.

Also, pEd is the man! Thanks again!! :)
