    http://www.leftlanenews.com/report-subarus-sti-readying-high-performance-ft-86-variant.html

There was some discussion in a previous thread as to whether the new joint Toyota/Subaru sports car project (FT-86) will have the 2.0 or 2.5L power plant.
According to this article, there will be an STi version coming out for the 2012 MY with the 2.5 (but I am not sure what the base model will have in it). The STi version will also get "a wider stance accented by wider wheel arches, a lowered suspension, a unique body kit, bigger wheels and a more aggressive spoiler."

Apparently they are still not sure if it will be RWD or AWD.

I would think that if Subaru is going to have their own version, it would be AWD. That would make the most sense to me since Subaru is all about AWD. But then again, who knows. Sounds like its going to be a pretty cool car.

every subaru is AWD (nowadays) so it will have to be AWD, perhaps the toyata versions will be RWD

If you google "ft-86 sti" you will find a few more articles

Seems that the rumor is a 240-250hp NA 2.5L, a 'next generation' 2.5L.

Hmm, seems interesting. Must be a pretty high compression motor then if its gonna put out 250hp NA.

Being in the same price range and additional development costs that won't be shared with Toyota for AWD lead me to believe it will be RWD only. Subaru went AWD on all their models in the early '90 in a push to create more brand identity and to differentiate their products. However, I don't see any reason why Subaru wouldn't be able to sell a car without AWD in the near future.

This is true in the US market. Some of the base cars overseas are still FWD.

Financially it would make sense to have rwd only/fwd only..cheaper to manufacture.usu. get better gas mileage..They would just have some explaining to do about their change in philosophy about awd only..I was exciteds about this when I first heard about it.Toyota has been seriously lacking in the sports car category for a long time.
