ignorance and an EJ22T block

So it looks like I'll be getting an EJ22T shortblock from a 91 legacy turbo, and am not quite sure what aftermarket rods, pistons and bearings will work, largely because most of the threads I'm finding go back and forth on contradictory information. So does anyone on here have any actual personal experience with this matter?

I'm basically looking to build a spare shorblock to replace a very tired stock EJ205 bottom end (over 175k miles), and given the opportunity to build an EJ22T, well, who wouldn't want a nice bump in displacement? I want to make sure I only buy things once for this shortblock, and all in all am satisfied with the current power output. Supporting mods on the stock motor are:

    VF22 @19psi
Injen CAI and FMIC Ecutek ECU
    STi pinks injectors
    Walbro fuel pump (255lph)
TXS HPBC (also Perrin EBC wired in but not in use)
    2 Perrin oil catch tanks
TXS cast up pipe (heat wrapped)
Bosal divorced WG down pipe and mid pipe
    SPT 3" cat back
    NGK BKR7EIX plugs
ported and smoothed stock exhaust manifold
    bypassed throttle heater

I'm guessing that with the bump in displacement, I'd need to go with slightly larger injectors and a fresh tune, any recommendations on other things I should do when it's time to swap blocks? Any positive input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

To sidetrack a little you are probably limited by injector duty cycle with the turbo. You could get retuned with bigger injectors and turn up the boost.

Any crank will fit, but the block may have to be machined for the thrust bearing. If you are going to build the motor you can use a 2.5 crank with a 79mm stroke and you will get 2.35 liters of displacement, you will need to use Wiseco stroker pistons but you can use stock STI rods with that setup. There are lots of options it just depends what you are trying to accomplish

I intend on using the 2.2 crank, and am not really looking to up the displacement. Mostly I'm just not finding any place that sells aftermarket rods/pistons for it. It seems that I can use aftermarket STi rods, but the pistons seem to be a PITA to find. I was also thinking of larger injectors, a better spooling turbo, and a retune, since it's no rush to get this thing put together.

With the 2.2 block the turbo will spool faster due to more displacement. So you don't have to worry about that. You do need bigger injectors.

CP, Wiseco and JE all make Pistons for the 2.2, Its usually easier to let your machine shop spec everything that way you are sure to get the right parts

Awesome, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. From personal experience I prefer JE over Wiseco, but I'm not familiar with EJ products by these two companies, recommendations?

They all make great EJ parts. Give David at Ball Engines a call, they can get you a good deal on the pistons and rods and if you order the parts from them they will take care of you on the machine work.

awesome, I'll likely give them a ring this week to get a quote

David just finished doing my stroker EJ22T, he may or may not remember the details but just tell him that I have the rod and piston part numbers for the stroker and non stroker and Ill send them to him.
