first of all my plans are to get my car retuned by ss in a couple of weeks once i'm ready..i'm wanting to know if there is anything else i should/could buy that would help in my tune..nothing huge(meth, bigger turbo,etc...) i was thinking about getting the grimmspeed ebcs and maybe there low temp thermostat..any input would be appreciated :)

car is a stock turbo 2005 sti
mods from last tune are-stage 2 ecuteck ss protune, cusco heat shield, perrin turbo inlet, walbro 255, invivdia catless dp, hks hi power muffler, perrin afta maf pipe, gpmoto silencer delete,k&n filter..dont think i'm forgetting anything..

MODS for new tune are the same except for-i replaced the stock airbox with an aps short ram,i've got 3 inch strait exhaust ran to the hks muffler(i had stock piping before) and my front mount should be coming in the mail monday..

You could get a BOV if you want one... Just a thought.

    Wirelessly posted

I'd say spend the money to do a compression test, check the plugs and a leak down test.

Those aren't really mods more than they are just basic maintenance. They are good ideas before a tune though.

oh yea..knew i forgot something..have done a full tune up,including changing one bad coil pack..and car already has a greddy rs bov(forgot to mention) ..will the grimmspeed ebcs benefit me any on my stock turbo?

Do you feel that the car is lacking pre-tune? You could always call SS to confirm what you need in addition to what you currently have?

if you got cash to burn, how about header and/or EWG??

maybe one step colder plugs... header will give some power too

Headers are not a bad idea either :)

would the grimmspeed ebcs be of any benefit to me with my mods? or would the stock ebcs hold up?

depends on target peak boost as far as the EBCS is concerned, if going with a bigger turbo might as well go with a DIY parallel fuel rail mod

    keep your EBCS a secret

    What are you talking about?

To the OP: If you want the EBCS so badly, get it. If you need to get one while you are there I am sure that SS/Forged will have them available for you.

ya i think i'll check with them and see if forged has any

EWG for sure. I am sure you could get a shop to just weld one on for you on your existing pipe, provided it is not the stocker with all those heat shields! I know we have done that in the past. We also have a couple EWG laying around along with the piping necessary to fabricate it.

Don't waste $95 on a EBCS. You can get the Grainger unit which works BETTER and is virtually IDENTICAL to other EBCS units for $30. Only downside is you have to splice in two wires instead of plugging them in but thats nothing....you can't mismatch those two wires as they are not polarity dependant meaning either side can splice into either wire off the EBCS.

If you want the Grainger let me know and I can get you a link to it. Worked like a charm on my car.

will i need to buy any fittings or anything to make it work?

You can get brass barb fittings from any hardware store for cheap. Most of the EBCS come with plastic fittings that are super easy to break.

ok..thanks man..its on the way here..dont know when but i hope soon, because i really need a tune..my car is really running like sheet and i cant imagine how bad it will be once i put the front mount on today :(

oh yea..one more thing..does it matter which hose goes where on the solenoid? and are there only 2 wires on the factory ebcs harness?

  32. bjtyson3

    bjtyson3 Member

just got the front mount installed..still gotta do a little modding to get it to work right and put the bumper back on,but at least the car is driveable again :)

oh yea and thanks coolrex..the grainger solenloid came in today..took less than a day to ship..couldn't have gotten it that fast from perrin :)

  34. Just my .02

The APS Short ram intake will make absolutely no power gains for you. The stock box will make as much power as any aftermarket intake will on the factory STi turbo.

Actually the APS short ram will have the potential to LOOSE you power on a warm day. This is because the ECU pulls timing based on air intake temps. If they are two high the car will not be as happy.

Getting the air from your heat soaked engine bay vs. your inner fender will increase the possibility of those temps being much higher...especially on a nice warm GA summer day :)

You can ask Scott about it. We tested it at TS, and with stock turbo nothing makes more power than the stock box.

That will free up some cash for you if you sell it :)

Good luck with the tune and good call on the grainger solenloid
