Seats and Airbags

I really, really dislike the driver seat in my car. Its fine for everything EXCEPT road trips - there just isn't enough support to be comfortable for a long drive. I love everything else about the car, though. I know that there are issues with the airbags and/or airbag sensors when changing seats - and I definitely want to keep the airbags working.

    My questions are:

    1. Can I get an aftermarket seat and still make the airbags work?

    2. Can I swap in a seat from another Impreza (like wrx or sti seat) and make the airbags work?

    3. If #2 works, then what model years will work with my stock airbag system?

Bug eyes 2002-2003 have the most comfortable seats. The airbag should plug right up but if im not mistaken 06's have an extra plug for something under the seat and might throw a cel if left unplugged

The 06-07 seats has an extra seat position sensor on the driver side and an extra passenger detection sensor on the passenger side. If you get 06-07 seats it wouldn't matter since it's all plug and play. If you get older seats then you'll have to swap over all those extra sensors so ALL of your airbags will work.

The hack is for tricking the system into thinking there's an seat airbag (3ohm resistor) when the seat is replaced by an aftermarket seat. For the rest of the sensors, those have to be transferred over.

No airbags are for those who use stationary objects as brakes while applying makeup, or have the middle initial "C"

Thanks for the replies, lets stay on topic. I like airbags - so I plan on keeping them. I have read a bit about how to make the airbag light go away with a resistor - but I want the airbags to work.

I have also considered re-building the seats to have more bolster, but I'm not sure how easy this is to do.

I think re-bolstering a stock seat is the way to go.

Anyone have any 06/07 seats for sale?
