possibly. drain your oil and check for metal bits. they will look copper/brownish in color. if so its pieces of a rod bearing

You can usually see it on the dipstick oil too if you get it in the light.

At 184,000 miles I'll go out on a limb and say without looking at the oil that it is a spun bearing.

    Time to go hybrid.

    x2

use an oil strainer when you drain the oil and it'll catch any metal bits for closer inspection ... although metal shavings in oil are pretty obvious

a 2.5L block sounds pretty good right now :D

I think everyone on this site is a vendor now.

    Not knocking you guys.

I'm more commenting on how dead the forum has become. Seems like vendors post more than anyone these days.

I wouldn't consider offering diagnosis advice a sales pitch.

... but in the case that the bottom end is gone, a new shortblock or rebuild would be in order.

I've noticed that too. I'd like to click 'new posts' and have more than 3 or 4 threads to look at :(

calm down boys...I just thought it was funny...and I was including myself, not pointing fingers.

I also agree about the lack of activity on the forum, boy if you need some vendor advice this is the place to post tho :D

Hope your heads didnt go out if you drove on the car, either way they'll need to be cleaned out for sure.

Out of curiosity, what kind of oil were you using?
