i just bought a used accessport v1 from a member on nasioc and i have a few questions. first off is it safe to install it when i already have a check engine light? the light is from my aps 65 mm cold air so its a lean condition but i was hoping stage 1 would fix that. or do i need to reset the ecu and clear the code before installing the accessport? and my second question is...is the software compatible with macs? i heard its not but is it safe to try? thanks guys.
the APS 65mm does not cause a P0171 by itself. You have some other problem that needs to be fixed before you do anything else, period. A P0171 could be one of many things: 1. Bad front A/F sensor. 2. Bad MAF. 3. Post MAF to inlet pipe leak (any condition) 4. Intake manifold leak, only under non-boosted condition. 5. Other (rare). Find and fix, then play.
well it never comes on until i put the cold air on. and it came on like 3 days after i put it on...its weird. i checked everything...i cleaned the maf sensor, check all my fittings and hoses. no cel comes on when the stock airbox is on but when the 65mm cold air is installed the check engine light comes on.
just because you cleaned the MAF doesn't mean it's not defective. Also, did you check the fron a/f sensor? That could be causing the issue.
well i understand what you guys are saying but, the check engine light does NOT come on with the STOCK airbox and it comes on 3 days AFTER the cold air intake is installed on the car. if my MAF sensor or my a/f sensor are bad...dont you think they would throw a code with the stock airbox as well? i posted this issue a while ago and people said i just needed a tune. i was told running stage one would be fine and resolve my issue.
I think the stage 1 map makes the car leaner too to get more power. I wouldnt flash it on the car already running lean. Sell that intake and run with the stock one its not a honda, the stock airbox is efficient enough until you go big turbo or front mount intercooler and fitment is an issue.
You need to datalog the vehicle with the stock intake and again with the APS. It will be very easy (if you know what you are looking at) to determine if the vehicle has a problem that the stock intake is covering up or the APS one is creating. If the APS is creating the issue and yet there are no leaks or other mechanical issues, then tuning will fix the problem, especially if the tuner knows what they are doing. If the stock unit is covering something up just enough so that the +25/+30 thresholds are not reached, it will be very easy to find the mechanical fault and fix it....THEN get it tuned with the APS unit.
Wirelessly posted (From Your Mom's House) As a tuner, he just answered your question...do you think that wording it differently would provide another result?
currently running stage 1 and there are no issues. thanks for the help fellas. car actually runs a lot better.
well spoke too soon. p0171 popped up again. even on stage one it came up. gotta be something else. giving me a huuuge headache errr
yea i guess. this might have been stupid of me but when i was installing the cold air i cut a little slit at the air filter so it would go on the pipe easier then just tightened up the clamp around it. is it possible air is leaking out of this little slit? but then again i dont know if it is a big deal.
