STI oil sump/pickup tube mod?

Is there any way to modify the stock STI sump/oil pickup? I was thinking of brazing more material near the flange that bolts to the block to strengthen the tube where it is prone to failure. Any thoughts on this. I don't have money to get an aftermarket solution. So can I get some kind of input on this? What is everyone'e thought on this?

Just look at the part that usually fails and see if there are signs of wear. I dont think its an instant thing, it takes time for the metal to wear in and break. Also if your's is really s wrx sump tube then you should be fine, I think its the length of the STI unit that causes the damage.

if not, then jb weld the hell out of it :sx:

Forgive Sparkle, his car was held together with JB weld, zip ties, duct tape, and whatever could be found on the roadside. I wouldn't add any more heat to that stock pick up. Just give it a little more time as a solution that is locally made will be released very soon.

Unfortunately I think it is more an issue with the metal itself rather than one specific point. I have seen it break mid way down the pickup and some up closer....it does not seem to be any one place.

Do you have pictures of the ones that break at midpoint with the oil pan still intact ???
