Anyone know what kind of brake upgrades are out there for the 08 WRX? All i can find are Brembo Gran Turismos which are out of my price range. I have heard mention of Rotera but don't know nothing about them.

What do you want to do with the car? If you want to improve the braking system you can do upgraded brake pads, lines, and rotors. If you want something more serious. Go with a 6 piston kit from Stoptech, AP Racing, and Brembo. They have some nice stuff available. The best priced for the money would be the Stoptech.

Are you still on the stock tires?

You will benefit greatly from simply upgrading your tires and your brake pads. When you feel like you beyond that upgrade move to fluid and new rotors. Unless you're looking for bling or heavy track use, I just do not think you'll see the return on your investment with a BBK.

    +1.

Tires, pads, lines, fluid will all make a huge difference.

You should only worry about changing your fluid if you decide to start doing activities that may overtemp the stock stuff. It is "advisable" to change brake fluid at least once per year. Maybe that's just my opinion. There is no reason to change your fluid if you are not doing brake lines as you have to flush the system when you replace the lines.

You do not need to flush your fluid for pads or rotors. Although it is advisable to perform annual brake maintenance :)

Thanks for all the advise! My car is a DD that I tinker with, no plans to put it on a track any time soon. Honestly, I am approaching the brakes from an aesthetic viewpoint, I want red calipers peaking through black painted wheels :pssh:. Sounds like I can just paint them and upgrade pads, rotors and lines and be fine.

I know that on older models you can upgrade to STI brakes, is that doable on an 08?

if you just want red see about pickin up some 4 piston brakes from 06-07 wrx. Maybe even a straight trade with someone who doesnt want red(I think they are the same? WJM?)

paint looks so shitty and flakes off after awhile unless you get someone to powdercoat them for you

Aren't the 08+ WRX brakes are actually Legacy brakes?

I have no idea, didn't really look into the 08+ parts since it was a completely different car.

Stoptechs ftw... no need for 6piston in your application. But if you want give me a ring here at the shop and I can get you a price on a nice set of 4piston Red ones.

Just a personal note on high performance brake pads. I recently put on the Hawk HP+ and they are fantastic with one notable caveat. They have a very annoying squeal. I put them on for autocross events but just can't take the noise they make for day to day driving especially in my parking deck. I'll say it again, they are a fantastic performance upgrade but you got to know what you're getting into if it's just an around-town car.

One other note is that the high performance pads dust like crazy and will eat through rotors. I agree if you are OK with the noise and dust and rotor wear - a fantastic upgrade. For me, not worth it - I have gone back to HPS pads. Call me a wimp!
