I now have a 4.44:1 rear diff. I took the cover off and was trying to identify what kind I have. I have done some searching and I have had minimum luck finding out what it is. I posted this up on another forum and they said it might be a suretrac. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

yeah, that's a mechanical diff and more than likely a suretrac (came stock in a lot of subarus, just not in USDM WRXs)

an easy way to check is to spin one of the hub carriers. if the other spins the same direction, it's a mechanical diff

I take it by your post that photobucket is blocked at your work...

Does not look stock to me. If you can see all sorts of different gears inside, its a helical or torsen. If you see gears and fancy wedges, its a suretrac type. If you see clutch packs/discs, its a mechanical clutch type.

It is absolutely *NOT* a Viscous LSD.

A keeper for sure tho as long as its not noisy or binding like its a spool.

There appears to be some type of a vin by the main gear... Maybe you can look it up and find out

I checked the number that is on the diff it self. No dice. I checked multiple places. It really doesn't matter, I am just happy that the diff is not a viscous.
