Carefully read the bold/italic section.... Subaru has initiated a voluntary regional recall to replace specific engine fuel lines and hoses on approximately 5,724 2002 and 2003MY Impreza WRX models registered in 16 “cold weather” states located in NOAA Climate Zone 1. The affected states are: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Campaign code WVK-21 has been assigned to this regional recall. In extremely cold temperatures, a certain engine fuel line/hose may temporarily seep some fuel during initial cold engine start up. If this condition occurs, vehicle occupants may notice the smell of fuel. To correct this condition, affected vehicles will require replacement of the engine fuel delivery line and hose. A special repair parts kit will be available in the near future. The kit contains all parts needed to complete this repair. Additionally, Subaru will follow up in early CY 2010 with letters to owners that it will provide an extended 12 year/unlimited mileage warranty for this condition to owners of affected vehicles located in the remaining 34 states. General information concerning this Recall: • Campaign Bulletin WVK-21 will be posted on the Techinfo.Subaru.com website during the week of December 7, 2009. The Bulletin will contain additional information concerning identification of affected vehicles, repair and claim submission procedures. • Notification letters will be mailed to vehicle owners registered in the 16 affected states on or around December 16, 2009. • VIN lists will be sent to dealers located in the affected 16 states on or around December 14, 2009. • Information concerning repair parts availability will be released in the near future.
They are addressing the worse ones first....in the coldest of states. But read the bolded statement....EVERYONE will be taken care of.
Yup... Mine too until i did the sti tgv a fuel rail Shameless plug... Im selling that setup pretty cheap to any bug eye owners thinking about upgrading to tgv deletes and sti injectors
Dripping fuel on a hot engine block.....mmmmmaybe?!?!? I modified my vehicle with a fire extinguisher
My buddies bugeye was so bad that he could taste the fumes. If he could taste the fumes I'd be worried. His only does it when it's colder than 30 degrees. Will report back tomorrow (he works with me so I will ask in the morn). Supposed to hit 28 tonight
Thought this may be of interest to my fellow bugeye owners Just got a letter from SOA in regards to this recall stating that a 12year/unlimited millage warranty for fuel line/hose for the 2002 and 2003 model WRX's
i have recieved my letter in the mail also. guess ill be getting paid to do the recall on my own car. the recall parts are limited at this time so if you want to get the recall done call and make an appointment first so that we can make sure we have the parts in first.
My issue was a fuel leak, and it was due to a loose fuel line clamp. Nothing like a head ache due to fuel smell.
yeah...all 04's and 05's do it as well. I'm going to get the ball rolling on that as the wife's 04 has done it since new but none of the dealers she's been to ever took care of it saying "its already got the new parts kit on it so you are crazy" and in the last 2 years it has gotten SUPER BAD. The recent 'cold snap' here in FL, you can smell it outside the car on startup.
Good grief Will - get off your rear and fix the wifey's car. You are a Subaru tech for crying out loud. What would this take you - about an hour?
will they fix this regardless of mods? i got my letter and been having the problem lately but wasn't going to waste my time if they where just going to send me on my way cause of mods.
Its a solid 5 hr job when done CORRECTLY. Somehow SOA expects us to do it in 2.4hrs as thats what the job pays when done under this recall. They should fix it as long as the stock injectors and rails are installed. Key word is *SHOULD* as in some dealers deny warranty due to it simply rolling off the lot. :unamused: Your nose doesn't work. Also if the customer keeps their car on recirc, they will never smell it...I always kept my WRX on recirc and Ashley's as well...never smell it unless you start the car with it on fresh air and the HVAC running first thing.
thanks. i hate the dealers here in gainsville and they hate me. i didn't want to waste my time getting denied cause i dont have stock injectors. i didn't know if cause this was a recall and not warranty work if it would be different but i guess not. oh well luckily it rarely gets cold enough here for this problem to happen.
Are you in FL? If so...I can make sure its covered...wink wink. It *IS* a recall afterall. All you have to do is complain and we are supposed to cover it by law...technically.
when the temperatures dropped into the 20s, i smelled horrible fuel fumes, would this be related or does this apply to bugeyes only
Complain about it. But since your car is very modified, I seriously doubt they will do anything for you.
my car has leaked for a few years but only when its really cold outside. i have had to move my car out of the garage and leave it outside because the fuel smell was so bad it was stinking up the down stairs.
SOOOOO not true. I have a freakish sense of smell. Like a super power. it is not a blessing I can tell you that. Matt, You were probably smelling the rich running exhaust
