http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/22/new-york-preview-subaru-wrx-goes-widebody-for-2011 looks DAMN good if you ask me!
looks like the 2009/2010 wrx owners got shafted....like the 2008 owners.....kind of like the 2005 versus the 2006 Key point. Never buy a wrx because something better is on the horizon lol
This just opens the door for a STI sedan in the future. I would not give up my hatch for a sedan though. I need the practicality of a hatch.
So why buy an STi now? I mean, the line of distinction is even thinner now. Sounds like Subaru's shooting themselves in the foot with this.
I think they're moving up in the market. They'll be plenty of people that like the new WRX that aren't looking for the extra cost and performance of the STi, and want a sedan.
this. I think people looking for performance will get the sti while people on a budget and not looking for a 6 speed, brembo brakes, and more power will get the wrx.
SUBARU to release the "STi Sedan" for 2011. It gets an engine and transmission, brakes and wheel bearing downgrade tho.
After thinking about it, I think the STI is not long for this world. I think it will be discontinued soon. It is getting too expensive.
I was just thinking that since WRXs have been almost as fast or faster than STis in recent road tests, it's not necessarily a good thing to make "lesser" model look like the higher performance and higher cost model. There are so few things separating the two models, it's not really giving your average person any reason to consider dropping the extra scratch for an STi.
Thats because they have a HUGE markup in the STi. Back when they were $32k for an 05, would could talk the dealer down to $26k all day long if you knew the right buttons to push. Today's STi probably actually costs the dealer ~$28k. There's a shit ton of markup, hold back and other spiffs that the dealer and sales person gets from the sale. SOA makes money on it too, likely another $4k or so. FHI makes money selling it to SOA, likely the same amount or more. So if you could buy one at cost....WIN. But no one makes any money.
This probably will not be the case in Japan, but I can see the STI here becoming a label for a "performance package", rather than an entirely different car alltogether. Next thing you know, you may see the "STi edition" and all you get are different seats and a new shift knob
No. Its always been the STi version is re-worked. Back then it was all hand built engines/transmissions and other goodies. Now with it being production line built parts are more common between models and trim levels. I'm sure the STi will always have a little more power, the bigger brakes and the real 6spd. But the way its looking, people want something that looks like an STi but w/out the STi price. I would not be upset if all turbo cars were to go away.
I am going to bump this thread for the 2011 STI announcement tomorrow... When it comes to the MY11 Subaru Imprezas, the WRX sedan and hatch look good. If the MY11 STI is sedan only, then I don't care about it. I actually sat down and thought about what cars I would want to replace my STI with when it comes that time. Right now there is not a single Subaru on that list if the STI goes back to a sedan. This would also apply if the hatch got a bigger spoiler on it as well.
I wouldn't say that much. A drop of $5-7K would do it though. Low $30K range instead of the upper $30K's.
the bottom of the bumper looks like a m3 rip off, and the whole rear end looks like a generic kia :wtc:
The hatch has much cleaner lines than the sedan. However, the sedan's flares look much more pronounced which is a nice touch. Still missing the gold BBS
Woww... That's pretty nice. But I'm not a fan of the sedan versions of the WRX. Hatch all the way please.
