I am in the middle (again) of planning the audio setup and I am going back and forth on cabling, brands, etc. I am after quality, period. I am not interested in 3000watts of bass thumping. I enjoy my music and I would like to continue to enjoy it 30 years from now. The question is, what do you use and what do you prefer? Also, any available discounts with your preferred cabling manufacturer? Thanks,
Monster Cable is overrated and overpriced. I have not found a good place to get wire here in Atlanta. If I were to rewire my system again, I would call Harrisburg Radio Lab and have them mail me cable. They sell good quality cable by length. I miss that place so much.
KnuKonceptz look nice, but I really haven't noticed a difference between any brands... Check out monoprice.com, you can get cables pretty cheap there. I picked up a 50' DVI and 50' HDMI cable for something stupid cheap, like $35 shipped for both.
Wirelessly posted Yes. I did check out partsexpress. They lack the hardest in rcas and speaker wire however.
I love the KnuKonceptz stuff. Anything new I buy for my home theater set up I get through them. Haven't used their car audio stuff though
I have no idea what I was talking about when I wrote this...:dunno There's 1 affirmation for KnuKonceptz and that's good enough for me. The most important thing is quality, and the runner up is that it is all consistently branded. I know, I know, I just prefer matching stuff
I have started using and measuring Monoprice cables since 2005 in various pro-audio/home audio apps. I've not had any quality issues with anything i've used. But if Bluejean is really a made-in-usa product, i'd be interested in them too.
Couple of the Knu products are US based, which is something I am a fan of. Right now, I have the following on my list: RCA mKs Silver Plated 5M RCA Cable mKs2.5M 1 38.99 mKs Silver Plated 5M RCA Cable mKs2.5M 1 38.99 Speaker Wire Karma SS 16 Gauge Speaker Wire (100ft) KAR16SS-100 1 32.99 Ground / Power Kolossus Fleks Kable 8 Gauge Black KFX8BK 4 0.65 Kolossus Fleks Kable 8 Gauge Blue KFX8BL 4 0.65 Kolossus Fleks Kable 4 Gauge Blue KFX4BL 20 1.4 PB-1448 P/G Distribution Block PB-1448 1 4.99 I am going to do a amp rack against the seat. Originally I was considering a false floor but it is more important to me to create an additional sound barrier from the exhaust and the cabin. Creating an amp rack that has sound deadening on the backside allows me to do just that
Still deciding on that one. We've used second skin for customer vehicles in the past but I personally cannot make up my mind. Suggestions?
well, anything is better than nothing, but if its a butyl wrap, usually the more expensive ones are not only better but lighter by alot. I still like B-quiet as a company, but take your pick. How much would you be willing to do if you did?
I am more than likely going to do some of the floor and some of the front doors. It is moot for me to do the rear doors as I do not have speakers back there The Subaru is so poorly acoustically oriented that there is not a point for rear speakers. Do I ever have passengers? Rarely. And if I do, we're talking, not jamming out. Not sure if I want to do the trunk or not. I don't think I'd go as far as to do the trunk deck/lid even if I did. I do not run a spare tire so I have a ton of open space that could be bad news for resonating vibrations/echos. My major concern/ideas for the trunk are simple. I am not giving up my 3" full exhaust, however, in my pursuit of the ultimate daily driver (6 years later) I do want to isolate the cabin from exhaust and road noise.
well, imo, in a car you have 2 enemies to sound quality. Mechanical vibration (things literally shaking), and intrusive noise/interference (what most people expect from mats). As far as intrusive noise, thats the wheel wells from tire noise, wind noise around the doors & mirrors and ceiling, and of course the path of the exhaust under the floorboard, and i've noticed the trunk itself tends to have some resonance with the exhaust note...
Wirelessly posted The trunk is fairly terrible without a spare in there. Wheel wells yes. But that would require a spray or paint on solution would it not?
You have the firewall to dampen the front wheel wells and the rears can be covered with sound dampening material. Pull off the interior bits, put on the material and then put everything back together.
what he said ^^^. Coating from the outside helps too (mine thin oem layer is falling off so I'm gonna spray mine), but i meant what he said. ;p
Just took some measurements of the trunk. I'll scan the drawing if anyone is interested. Right now I am considering building the amp rack and attaching it to the rear seat supports. The backside will have two layers of acoustic dampening foam on the backside (part that is against the rear seat foam). The question I keep coming back to is whether or not to build a false back to cover the amps and protect them if something in the trunk decides to shift around during transit. If I do go with a false back to protect them, then I have to figure out what I am going to do with my 10" IDQ, should it go into the spare tire well and have a false floor over it? What are the risks of damaging the sub if water were to leak into the trunk and settle down into the spare tire well?
