finally got around to installing the avcr on the car. got a few questions for youo guys that have ewg. i have been reading alot about using both the top and side nipple for total valve control.
but others say that if you have a 1 bar spring (which i do) that using the top is useless. i trust peoples opinion here more than some random board. anyone care to break it down to me?

I have had no issues running my avcr with just the side port hooked up.

I don't think I have ever seen a set up that was running both.

I have both hooked up on my avcr but I am running a 1.5 bar spring. Never had any issues with boost control.

I always ran just the side port with the top port vented to atmosphere.

but does anyone's wastegate fluctuate with using both ports? I sure do. Constant opening with AVC-R off at wastegate spring pressure.

nope...mine is rock solid...I run mine off most of the time and just on spring pressure.

We just used the side port and left the top open. Seemed to work fine.

The correct way to do it is to use both ports, boost should be more stable that way. The only people I have ever seen use only the bottom port is the suby crowd

I agree with Matt...I ran both ports on my Honda as well with rock solid boost control.

i went with both ports. quick question. does the avcr make your ewg sound noticeably different? i maintain my desired boost just fine with no surging, but when i switch between off and A map my ewg sounds totally different. i guess its having the solenoid in the mix?

When its off it opens based on spring pressure alone, so it opens once and stays open. When the avcr is on it opens and closes to maintain a specific boost pressure.

Thus giving a 'chain saw' sound.

But you have a Hallman right? Hallman's bleed pressure.....solenoids flutter/fluctuate pressure.

i mean my boost pressure is solid it's just the noise that annoys me. On all the EVOs and Supras i've seen with EBC their wastgate opening is constant non-pulsing...

so in the end, if avc-r is used on EWG, does it make the fluctuating noise on all cars since that is it's mechanics of controlling boost?

Oh Yeah, and I have equal length headers with AVC-R. Mine just sounds like an angry packmule on crack.
