Evidently Consumer Reports no longer recommends the WRX..It's the only Subaru that they now do not recommend..Any thoughts..?They wrote the #1 complaint was transmission related with several others(do not have article handy)

the transmission is perfectly fine until you start abusing it. launching, slamming gears, etc. I'm willing to bet they took a survey of people who got their cars serviced on what they thought the faults of the car were.

I've seen quite a few WRXs pushing more than twice the power than that of OEM specs with no issues. Because the driver wasn't being a schmuck.

I think it is part of the government / GM's plot to push all Japanese car makers out :)

Eh, Car and Driver rated my WRX one of the top 10 cars of 2003.

Edit: And my transmission is still going strong 7 years later.

my bugeye is holding strong at 140k miles now... i have driven my friends 02 bugeye and i must say mine feels a lot more solid.. could be how the car was maintained, but the tranny definitely feels notchier on the older ones

from an what i have learned in school (industrial design), i can tell where the new impreza has cut corners in the interior dept. i would assume toyota had a lot to do with that. for example, there is no more door card anymore...but rather a single piece of plastic, and then some metalic paint which would be a cheaper way of manufacturing. many things like that on the newer impreza despite having better driving position / ergonomics.
