ok, so ive done some looking around and cant really find what im looking for. im looking for numbers from a dom 3 and a hta green with a 2.5 block with sti heads not running avcs with either sti cams or 272 cams and head work. will have front mount probly 850cc injectors. what do you think the hp and tq numbers would be. im looking for as close to 400 as possible. do you think that set up would hit the 400 hp mark? would i need to do ewg or meth to hit 400 on those 2 turbos? thanks for input
I think I have seen both turbo's hit close to 400whp. I would go ahead and get the ewg setup. You will have rock solid boost control and gain a few HP in the process. Plus the sound of a an ewg vta is amazing
EWG for sure. You will not regret the benefits (like Eddie said). I'd say Blouch Dom3 XTR should fit the bill nicely. I would also suggest browsing through the Proven Power Bragging section on Nasioc. You should be able to find other people who are running the setup your thinking about and see what their dyno sheets say.
Robbie tuned a Dom 4 XTR while I was there the other day and that thing freaking spooled FAST! On pump it made 400+ until it maxed the MAF (65mm intake FTL). I imagine a Dom 3 XTR with a KSTech 83mm MAF and meth will easily make more than 400 whp. Talk to Doug or whomever your poision is (tuner).
ive kinda decided i dont want to go rotated and will decide on either the dom 3 or hta green. id like to get some feed back from the tuners on wich is the favorite of the two as far as quicker spool and wich will get me to the 400 mark with most reliability. thanks for everyones input. breel ill call you when i get off work
Well from personal experience Blouch is leagues more reliable and consistant than FP. Lots of FP failures and inconsistancy out there.
I know you have two picked out...but you know by the time you pay $2000 for a stock location turbo, buy an external wastegate up pipe and a decent sized external wastegate...you are at the rotated mount price range with less turbo. Sell your up, downpipe, turbo and other misc goodies you no longer need and you just payed the same as quite a few rotated kits out there and have room to grow. Just a thought. Our Sargent Power rotated kit is only $3200 for several of the turbos, Perrin is about the same. You have options that are just better than the stock locations. Turbo does not have to work as hard, engine does not have to have as much timing...just a better set up. Get a used piping kit for cheap and now you are even less than the stock mount. Just trying to think in your best interest.
i guess i just need to write down prices of everything and compare to see the the difference. ive done it in my head a million times.
Lol, well off the top of my head... Stock location turbo $2000 ish EWG pipe $400ish Tial 44mm EWG $450 3" turbo inlet $200+ Short ram or cold air $150+ Stainless oil line for turbo $100 Total $3300 Rotated kit...includes all of the above and more (at least ours does) $3200 Now sell off downpipe, up pipe, and get back $300-$400...Rotated for $2800 Now you can find stuff used on both sides of the game to make it cheaper.
slowwrx has a piping kit cheap. A t3/t04e can be had for 650 new and a t3/t04s is around 800. The e is close to a 30r and the s is close to a 35r.
just found this. http://www.importimageracing.com/p/Turboxs-GT30R-Rotated-Turbo-kit-02-05-wrx-sti.html. what is the difference between .63 and .82?
Would you be talking about the piping kit that's coated and sitting in my living room or does he have another setup?
Then there are the Borg Warners that can be had for around $900-1000 depending on the model and go from 30R to 4088R for close to the same price.
Matt has another Harmon Motive rotated up/down kit. I say go rotated or go home. Almost $2k for a stock location turbo just seems like a waste.
has to do w/ the size of the openings, the .63 will spool a little faster, but the .82 will give you more up top. My rotated kit (for sale, btw ) is a .63, that's why I get crazy good spool. I would go .63 unless you plan on going for the 500whp mark. Honestly, where I was at, both Ball and Dan agreed there was a good amount of power left under the curve left in 4th and 5th gear w/ the .82...even with cams, it started to run out of air at taller gears
If this gives you any insight, we just had an 08 STI (granted it's dual AVCS) make 380whp (Dyno Dynamics) @ 20psi on 93 octane with a Dom 3.0 XT-R (IWG). Mods include: Perrin FMIC and turbo inlet, AMR header, up-pipe, and intake, 850cc injectors, and a Cobb AP for tuning on a stock motor. I think that's the only data we have on that particular turbo.
so, im leaning towards a stock location turbo again. thinking of a hta green or fp red now. i still have to finish my block and head work plus buy all of the supporting mods as well. i just cant see spending double the money on a rotated set up including supporting mods to get to what my goals are. im pretty sure i can get to my goal of 400 whp and tq with a stock location with the head work and cams on a hta green or fp red.
Jesus...$1800 retail for a Dom 3.0? The supporting mods for a rotated kit and Dom 3.0 would be the same, no?
He doesn't want to go rotated.....hes said it over and over. I'm a fan of rotated myself but if he doesn't want to go rotated then stop trying to beat it into him. Sheesh.
Stop being a Dousche....sheesh. He said above he couldnt see spending double in supporting mods for a rotated kit...that is why I said the supporting mods for both would be the same. Read before you write...sounding like SS now.
Haha I'm not being a douche....simply answered the question he asked. He already has downpipe, uppipe and other supporting mods. Rotated kits $2500-$4000 depending on what and how you go. Custom fitting and everything else. Yes he can sell the uppipe and downpipe but face it he would only get $400-500 max for it so still out $2000-3500. The cheapest rotated kits would probably be Sargents kits and he'll wait a while for it to be done which is probably fine as he is building the motor now. The big appeal with stock location is stealth. King if you really just want numbers a blouch 20g will get you 400/400 if you run meth. Really your options are wide open. But FP turbos are very inconsistant. There are many running great and many run like crap and have poor numbers. Techlord has first hand experience with a crappy FP 18g that was pitiful until he switched to a Deadbolt 18g.
I sold my rotated kit for really cheap...so cheap that I dont want to post it up because people would be hunting Breel down. You can buy a used T3/T04E for $400-500....Ball has a rotated pipe kit minus the EWG I am sure he would let go for $450...He was going to go EWG anyway so that EWG for $300. I am just saying the pricing really isnt that far off. You are absolutely correct though...The Stealth factor would be completely gone. I see pros and cons both ways....but like I have said all along...if I had to do it all over again I would have gone rotated to begin with
Really it all boils down to if/when you hit 400hp/tq are you gonna be DONE or not? If not rotated all the way. Many people don't like piecing parts together. My entire rotated setup was < $2000 but it was a headache and a half finding everything like clamps, gaskets, etc. Also many people don't mind buying a stock location big turbo car if it was to be sold. But rotated....many hesitate. However I'm sure King has no desire to ever sell. Getting off topic so back to what the OP wants.....Blouch 20g w/ meth, or Blouch 3.0XTR.
i was looking into getting the ams 30r kit and fmic. with injectors, pump, and tune you are looking between 7k-8k then i have to build the motor and all. if i went stock location get turbo, injectors, pump, fmic, external wastegate up pipe and and easte gate and tune for around 4k plus build the motor. thats a 3k-4k savings to get the numbers i want. really i would like to go rotated but i dont have that kind of money rite now.
Still going to have to buy wastegate, injectors, EWG pipe and FMIC with stock location. But rotated kits usually come with a EWG, so you can take that away from the price of the rotated kit. They also come with the EWG up pipe. Pump, injectors and FMIC will all cost the same regardless of which way you go, so really I would take them out of the equation. I think I laid it out pretty neutral above. If you are considering one of the big stock locations cost will be very similar in the end.
