The idea of renewable lubricants for your motor?

I have been following this on IWSTI for quite some time and have been talking with "Wolfplayer" on IWSTI back and forth for a while now about this company. His oil analyses have always looked great and he has always been pleased with the oil on his relatively modified STI.

The idea of a non-petroleum based lubricant is appealing if not admirable in my opinion. I am not a hippy gotta-have-my-green kinda guy but I am always interested in environmentally friendly or sustainable alternatives to the things we use every day. Their lubricants are formulated from renewable agricultural plant and animal resources. Their lubicrants, 5w40 in particular, are reasonably well received on Bob Is The Oil Guy. The analyses are showing higher zinc content (which is one of the elements I am after in my oils) than the latest rotella 5w40 variant so much so that I am willing to give it a couple oil changes and see how I like it as an alternative.

It is not cheap, however, I am willing to pay more for a lubricant that does its job well. I am considering going for 2 gallons or so (~$70.00 @ 8qts) and giving it a shot.

I am not sure if anyone else is interested in seeing how this works but I thought I would share my interest. At the very least, it should make for a decent debate.

Maybe you all should try it in your 1 series?

Very cool. Sadly I can't try this. The M motors are very finicky and the turbo BMW's may be the same way....M motor HAS to use 10w60 Castrol TWS or it tends to spin bearings.

don't think we, as majority of the forum, drive hard enough to actually see a difference between different major brands of oil, however something renewable would always be interesting, keep us posted
